I have another problem now. I've looked at the price of a Blade 450 BNF and getting it later adds £50+ to the price over the RTF by the time you buy the battery and charger separately. I wonder if I'd be better of getting the RTF now for the tx but leaving the heli in the box until I'm proficient on the 120SR.

Could I resist the temptation? Argghhhhhh! Decisions, decisions!

Buy it you only live once , and thanks for the intro , it made me smile all day.

If you are serious about the hobby then a Blade 450 would be a good stepping stone when your happy with your flying and as you already said it works out cheaper as you get the added bonus of having the DX6i from the bundle too.

Anyways here's the cheapest I can find it if you are tempted Blade 450 3D RTF

I'm afraid that Rachel and Vikki have got two things wrong. First of all its not about living only once its about doing it when you are young enough. As you get older there's less that you can do, and if you're not careful you can end up with loads of cash and no inclination to do anything. And Vikki has shown a bad attitude problem. I want to see if I can fly?? There's no room for initial doubt. You have to know that if they can do it, so can you. You may well have doubts at times, most people do, but you just have to keep on going. The secret is that helis are so quick that there is no time to think. You have to be able to do it. It's like any other skill, like playing an instrument, you can look at your fingers and wonder whose controlling them. You are doing it, you have rewired your brain to do something new. It can't be done by effort, just time. One day it seems impossible, then it's easy. Then it gets interesting.

Most people find that doing it for real is different from doing it on the sim. It's a combination of extra stress and a slightly different experience. Just take it slowly with the real stuff and start again just going for a short hop and then build up from there. Once you know what you can do you can decide how close to the limit you want to go. Some people like to push themselves and crash and repair a lot. Other people can learn and improve without crashing.

I don't think it matters what you do, so long as you enjoy it.

Vikki, sounds like you have crossed that Rubicon of limiting the spend on the hobby....good one. I mentioned the other day that I have the predecessor of the Blade 450, the 4003d. I re-built mine from a damaged pile of spares from ebay so I could learn the building/repairing bit and really enjoy that side of the hobby. The blade is a great entry to cp helis and spares are cheap and plentiful and tons of people are around to give advice. Can't stress enough the importance of training gear and some tutorials like RADDS (if you can cut through the rambling) Radd's School of Rotary Flight Go for it

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've made my decision:

            Phoenix.
            DX6i.
            Neck strap.
BNF msr x for indoor real life practice.
Batteries for Blizzard and msr x.

Sounds like a plan to me

            Best regards.

            Vikki.
