  • Making Turns

    I am struggling to make right & left turns on the sim,can anyone give me any advice how to get this right especially the stick inputs.

    The best thing for it is practise and you will get it. Basic stick movements are to turn left its left with both sticks and right turns are the opposite. You will have to put in slight adjustments on the pitch etc to keep it smooth but you will be trying it and one time it will just click for you

        The trick is (or was for me) to really fly the tail... you need to be very active with the rudder flying a heli, which is strange if you are coming from planks.

        really try to push that tail round the corner and you'll find it much easier.

          I found the best way to make a turn is..... if you want to turn right.... start to turn the tail smoothly followed quickly by by a slight right aileron input to lean the heli and help it in the direction you want to turn. This will help guide it into the turn. When i say quickly i mean a few milliseconds after you put the rudder input in. The other way round can work also, this will achieve a slightly different style turn. You will soon find a nice blend of the 2 to make nice smooth turns.

            All of the above, plus you need to pull up a bit on the elevator or the nose will drop.

            When I started out, I found that I was putting in too much aileron (banking it over too much), ending up on a knife edge and falling out of the sky. For me, it was less aileron, more rudder with a bit of up elevator.

            As others have said, with a bit of practice, eventually it will just click and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about!!

              A good acronym is LAFT (lead with airleron follow with tail). A sure fire way to a smooth turn. This comes from one of the best pilots in the country and from one of the best tutorial books, Russ Deakin a guide to helicopter aerobatics. This book helped me a lot including basic forward flight.
