You wont regret it honestly, I'm running 3 helis and 3 planks on mine - I will be going for the 8fg next year for the more complex programming for planks, flaps, crow braking and so on; Spektrum can do it but the programming is difficult whereas the 8fg makes it a lot easier.

Rob, quite honestly the best thing to do is go to a shop (if your in Edinburger go to Marionville Models or if it's Glasgow CMF hobbies or Paisley Model Centre) & get your hands on each radio and see what one you prefer. Or as Dave (Actuator) said, go to a club (you have an open invite to Waterfoot where you will see every one of these radios in the flesh) and ask questions to guys that fly with these sets every single week.

For pure usability & function i would go with the 8fg, if not a DX7 would ideal (more functionality than a 6). Most people will advise against a DX8 because it has known issues but at the end of the day, it's your wedge, so your choice & it should last you a long time so buy once, buy right definately applies here

The advice your getting here is based on experience & what works well. They aren't trying to get you to spend more money just because they feel like it

In my opinion the DX6I is the best TX for when you first starting....... trust me when you start to program your TX can get pretty complicated in the early stages....that's what I found anyway. I have 2 6i's, one that I fly my helis and one pernament next to my computer for the sim.
I have been watching programing videos of the DX8I on utube and for the me the 6i is the best one for user friendly.
Next year I will def go for the 8fg, but by then I will have more understanding on how to properly set up my future bigger heli

the thing about the DX8 ( the one i would preffer ) is that only units with the Product ID (PID) HS008X or HS009X found in the battery compartment, are affected.. is this not correct ?
i can get the vendor to check ot before he sends me it ?

Rob mate I think your hart is set on the DX8 and you will never be happy with anything else.
Get it mate. Is luck of draw really. Lot's of people use them and they had no problems at all.
But for me, I found it bad enough when I am crashing my heli and is my fault, but to crash because of the tx's fault............no thanks mate, not for me.

How big are your hands? it is a serious question, I found the DX8 too chunky so got the 8FG, BUT others have said the 8FG feels small and the DX8 is a perfect fit. Both cost a lot of money, it is well worth the time to get your hands on the radio of your choice before putting your hands on your wallet.

The user interface on the DX8 is a lot easier to use than the 8FG, I still have both and although I perfer the feel 8FG, both phisical and in flight, I miss the simplisity of programming the DX8.

As a side note the only difference between the 8FG and 8FG super (apart form the price) is longer trim levers on the bottom of the radio and a visit to the Futaba web site for the 4.01 software

I went for the DX8.. i have been assured, the issues they once had are long gone and in the past.. if i had bought a dx6i.. i dont think i would have ever been truly happy, always wondering if i should have bought the dx8.
                        thanks to everyone Rob

Good choice. It will do evrything you will need both now and a long way in to the future. I bought the DX8 4 weeks ago despite having flown Futaba since 1977. No issue at all with the DX8 in electric or IC helis so far.
