  • Great outdorrs flight, problems now please help!!m :o(

Just wanted to tell you guys that yesterday early evening I had the most fantastic flight of my CX2 you can imagine, the air was completely still, and I went out the front where I have loads of air space to fly in.

You see I live in a cul-de-sac square which must be 80 ft square, so anyway I lifted her off and up she went, perfect, got her up to over 30 ft perfectly controlled, forward, back flight superb, I was on a buzz I'd never got out of flying anything before, I even landed her three times from coming down from a great height as gently as anything.

My friend Keith who was out with me was well impressed, as were a few of the other neighbors who thought I was a real pro, lol yea I though all of a weeks learning, but anyway it felt really good, and afterwords I was buzzing for hours.

Talk about a rush, the CX2 is wasted indoors, on a still day that's where she belongs, it was truly wonderful, and I can only start to imagine what you guys with the real deal must get out of flying your 3D models.

It really gave me a taster of whats to come later on.

    However.....

Today being slightly windy I decided to have a spin indoors, I know a new inner shaft is on the order books but everything was going great, then out of the blue she lurched sideways in an out of control way, luckily now I have more experience I quickly got her straight and away from the post she was about to crash into.

I have damaged the rear body panel, and one of the little "wings" on the side is hanging on a hope and a prayer, but this was due to a stupid prank earlier on yesterday where I hit the celing and the blades whacked me on the way down, and she landed on her side hard enough to crack the rear body and tail.

This caused no trouble last night but this morning she's flying like a pig, for a better word.

I've taken off the front canopy and studied the shafts and lower bearing, and it seems to be on the **** ever so much slightly, plus theres a wobble vibration you can feel and see while holding the CX2 and when you forward the right stick for forward flight (sorry of course) theres a knocking faint sound, and you can easily feel it also.

Of course she's grounded until fixed but I haven't a clue where to start, I undone some of the screws around the lower blades as you have two above and two below and I think one of the threads have gone in one of those as the screw just keeps turning, plus I haven't any idea whats needed to be replaced or how to do it.

Could I beg on someones mercy who knows about how to take this apart and fix the problem, an idiots guide if I may, once I've done something once I'm sure other things will fall into place, but I'd rather try to and save the expense again of sending it back paying out over £20 quids worth of postage for both ways, then £15 for hlaf an hours work them to put things right again.

I'm going to order parts when I know whats needed, as I'll upgrade to the metal parts like the swash plate and the rota blades connecting areas, (sorry about my lack of knowledge with the technical terms) but I'm in a fix right now, where all I want to do is get flying again.

Luckily these broken parts are hopefully the last of my learning curves, as this morning I had two flights and even with the above problem I easily navigated the chopper away from danger, and now I feel much more confident, but now it's grounded, which is a real bugger, stomp, rant.

Can anyone help me with step by step instructions on how to get out of this fix, my appreciation would be beyond thanks for any help right now.

It sounds like the Blade Cx2 is a joy to fly! I cant wait for mine to come now. (Bank holiday monday pushing it back another day )

Its great to hear your getting to terms with it now. Anyway, i have no idea what your problem could be or how to solve it, ill just leave that for the experts to answer.

Goodluck mate and keep on flyin! (when your fixed up again ofcourse)

Cheers mate, pop me a quick e-mail when your parcel arrives, so I know you've got it.

Your love it, trust me if the air is nice and still fly her outside where you wont hit anything, you won't have to worry about trimming the controls in the safty for a large open area, just be carfull with the landing and don't panic, that's the main cause for any crash or hit.

Is trimming where the helicopter turns one way and you have to push a button to stop it? I didnt think you had to do that with the larger co-axis helis.

Adjusting the trims is easy, if the CX2 moves forward without any impute then the trim adjuster that controls that operation you move back a touch, launch her back up and see what difference has been made and so on until you reach a good balance.

Don't worry it's all explained in the manual, and looks harder than it really is, once you start playing about to get things spot on your be there in no time at all..

As I was told just do small step flights to Begin with and work upwards from that, trust me from experience it's expensive if you don't.

At this point the CX2 is completely unflyable as soon as any power is given for take off it rolls over, and it's totally impossible to even attempt to fly to the point of being dangerous.

It can't understand it, last night it flew like a gem, since then I don't know whats happened.

Another thing last night after my last successful flight, toward the end of the battery recharge both light were flashing on the balance charger stating a problem.

I placed that battery in the heli this morning to drain it so to fully recharge it again this time the batt charge perfectly no flashy lights at all.

I haven't a clue, but there wouldn't be a voltage spike that has fried the 4 in 1 control unit, hence the total unflyability if the thing.

I know the shafts are spent but its ******* annoying not knowing for sure.

If so I'll count my losses and by a new CX2.

            Please help!

              hi, cambs flyer,
it sounds like you have bent both the inner and outer shafts, hence the vibration.
these need to be replaced a.s.a.p.
if the 4 in 1 unit was fried, there wouldn't be any response from the inputs you put in.
also check the fly bar is straight and the black weights at the end are as far outwards as possible, these could be uneven and cause massive balance problems.
replace the parts and check the frame to make sure nothing is broken ,then try to fly again.
when you fly it again for the first time,i will be out of trim,so take care.
hope this helps and let us all know the outcome.
              cheers

Thank you Vince for your kind reply.

I had a feeling the shafts were wreaked as when they rotate at slow speed the wobble is horrendous.

Trouble is no matter how dumb it sounds I haven't a clue how to perform a change over of both shafts.

I was going to upgrade the rota attachments and swash plate to the blue metal stronger parts, as well, but where do I start to take these things apart from the shafts up wards.

The twin fly wheels under the motors have a metal bearing with two screws either side, do these hold the inner & outer shafts to the fly wheel?

And advise would be a blessing at this point.

                    hi cambs flyer,
first of all, take off the fly bar and the blades by undoing the screws for each blade.
then undo the bottom screws on the cog wheel under the heli, this will release the inner shaft by pulling it from the top.
remove the cog wheel and there will be another cog wheel ,,on the lower swash plate undo the screws both sides, top and bottom and unclip the linkages.pull off the bearing housing and pull offthe lower swash plate housing.then undo the screw on the retaining bearing.
you will have to pull out the outer shaft from below which means removing items to release the shaft.refit is the reversal of removing.

                    vince.

                      Thank you GD

Many thanks Vince, I have followed your description and I now have the CX2 dismantled and all the parts are in little plastic pots.

It's quite straight forward when you get stuck in, and not complicated at all as I originally thought.

I've ordered all new parts in the blue anodized metal, the upper rota head and shaft, plus the metal bearing holder below, the blue metal lower rota head, plus the blue Swash plate kit, and a complete new body in yellow with the police colour scheme, all totaled the bill has been around the £57 inc postage.

Just one thing, when you replace the lower rota head back down the outer shaft, does the bottom of it touch the upper Swash Plate so theres a little play between the two, so the upper Swash Plate can move circular under the Rota Head Assembly for attaching the Swash Linkage bars, and once the servo arms are attached to the lower Swash Plate looking at it from side on, the Swash Plate assembly looks like its slightly leaned forward, where the outer shaft passes straight up through it?

Also the Outer Shaft Retaining Collar is there a slight gap between the lower Swash Plate and the Collar, Or does it sit upon it?

Many thanks for you great advice so far it's bee very helpful indeed.

                        hello cambs flyer,
if you look at the outer shaft ,there are small holes in it ,when you put the lower rotor head back on,look through the holes and line them up with the shaft holes, put the screws in tight and they self align.
the swash plate should be aligned so it is at 90 degrees to the shaft, not leaning forward or backwards.
im glad i could be of help.
one more thing, buy some green slim for the ball joints,it will improve the movements and reduce ware and tare.

                        best regards

                          Vince your a top man.

And do you know what, after seeing the aligning holes and putting it back together has fixed the problem 80%, there's a little shaft wobble where it's slightly bent but bloody hell, amazing stuff, I'm so pleased you gave me the kick start to take this bugger apart, as I now can't wait to upgrade the parts to the blue metal ones.

Now I've aligned the screws the swash plate sits flat, with about 5mm clearance from the retaining collar, does that sound about right mate?

That slim stuff where can you buy it, that sounds the ticket.

I'm totally hooked, I can't wait to build her up with the new parts and body, in essence it'll almost be a brand new CX2.

WOW ,you sound alot happier now.
                            yes ,the distance sounds perfect.
Im glad youv'e sorted it out.it makes you more confident with the heli once you know how to repair it does't it.
the upgrades will make it look and fly better.the green slim i got from ebay, but i think alot of model shops sell it on the shelves,if not green slim, something else that does just the same job.
that little wobble ,im sure you can put up with ,until the replacements come. Are you flying with it again now.
                            It's a great hobby flying heli's.
i used to fly planes mostly, but completely changed to heli's,mainly because of the british weather,i can fly indoors .

Thank you yes happier and more relaxed about the whole show.

Stripping her down to the bare bones taught me a valuable lesson, when you get stuck into it, it isn't that bad after all, and being able to fly and maintain this little flying machine without having to send it back to she shop will be wonderful, A, not having to pay £30 an hour labor, and B, the satisfaction of knowing you've done it yourself, and as someone said to me shortly after joining, "your learn more about your heli when you fix it yourself," very true words indeed.

But looking further ahead replacing motors or servos isn't a big deal either, which makes for some sound flying when older parts need to be replaced.

I plan to go up a gear in the new year with CCP heli's bit I'm more then content with what I have now, and the phoenix flight sim will be my next purchase of any.

Thanks again bud' this has opened my hobby up to being hopefully completely self supportive on the maintenance, replacing parts side of things, which makes the whole experience more enjoyable.

Once she has her new body and metal parts I'll link a few images of her.

OK here's another Q & A situation, lol, on the servo levers there's a series of holes, and at the moment the attaching arm to the swash plate is in the furthest hole to the right, I guess as you move the arm further down the series of holes the leverage becomes more so the flight moves become more aggressive when turning, up down ect?

Will moving the arm to the next hole possibly help with outside flight in a slight breeze, I'm guessing here of course.

Anyway here's me wishing this wasn't a Bank Holiday weekend, as I'd be building her up tomorrow if not. lol.
