Gently build the head speed up till it gets light on the skids, then very small movements of the other stick to get used to what it does and as stated earlier small short hops until you build your confidence up. But if you get Pheonix crashing doesn't cost you, so well worth the extra £80.

Inwoods delivery is very reasonable, virtually cost price. No need to worry about being ripped of with ridiculous p&p from them. Last time I ordered 4 servos from them the postage was only about £2 - £3, and received the next day.

Don't worry about flying the Blade CX2. In a room with still air, get it up into the hover, put the transmitter down on a table, and go for a walk. It'll still be there hovering by the time you come back! It really does hover nicely. Just make any tail/cyclic inputs to move the heli around very gently. Keep it 'tail in' (ie. towards you) to save any early mental gymnastics in control reversal etc.

Let us know how you go.

              Cheers - Rob

Rob and the others have hit everything on the head about the CX2 perfectly.

I own a Blade and have had about two flight hours practice so far and I can tell you it's a superb little chopper.

I wouldn't worry about buying any stabilizing gear, I brought a pack and have never used it, the hover and landing even if a little hard is rock steady.

If your going to purchase a few extras buy an extra battery, and a pack of top and lower rotas.

Once your new heli arrives all you need to do is charge the battery, once completed insert it in the blade, switch on the control unit first then connect the Blades power wires and wait until the arming light on the control box which is housed in the cockpit area stays a solid green then you ready for the off.

Read the manual to make the necessary adjustments if you encounter a little drift, but thats very easy once you've done it a few times.

Take care with the throttle as it'll rise very quickly and hit your ceiling of care isn't taken, and make sure you have at least ten foot breathing space to play in.

Save up and have a blast mate.

they all seem to be aeroplane based tho? Is it the same in most counties?

I think it's the same everywhere - planes are usually the favourite choice.
At least 5/7 of the merseyside clubs do heli's tho

I know your all proabibly sick of hearing about this little CX2, but im very excited! In a weeks time i will be having my first flight of a model helicopter, who knows where i will be in 5 years!

Anyway, iv been researching and it seems you can actually modify the CX2 with a carbon fibre tail boom. Does this actually do much difference? Also where can you buy one?

                          Hey Scottscott

Already talking about upgrades!! You are definitely the man for this hobby!!
Don't worry about upgrades just yet stick with standard until you can fly it confidently then you may feel the need and be able to take advantage of the upgrades.

I am not much further along the learning curve than you and I found that a computer Sim was very very helpful.

I use Reflex XTR which was the best at the time, I believe Phoenix is the current favorite. Within the Sim there are training options that help teach you the basics.
In XTR you can set it up so that you have control of as many channels as you like. IE you can learn just aileron control (sided to side) on its own and the computer controls the rest. As you get better you can add more controls, like elevator (forwards and backwards) then tail (spin(yaw) left spin(yaw) right). You can set any combination until you are comfortable.

Best bit is crashes don't cost a penny!

I also have a Coaxial heli a Lama V3 (bought secondhand from a friend) and because of my Sim experience i was able to fly it fairly confidently within a couple of battery packs. it is also pretty robust with most accidents showing no damage what so ever.

I am just about to start to fly my Zoom 400, its a bit smaller than the trex450 but very cheap now, not the best beginners heli but it was a free gift and beggars cant be choosers!!

I can highly recommend the combination of the Sim and the CX2 to get you airborne I think the introduction of both of these has really helped the Model helicopter industry along with modern Gyro's.

Good Luck you will now be hooked for life!!

                          Ben

Ok, buy a 90, put a Hyper in it and Viagra in the fuel tank so it stays up longer.
