Mini Pred or T-REX etc...?

My local model shop stocks the mini pred and although it would be handy for spares, many of you seem to have a bad opinion of this model. Whats the best electric helicopter to get. It will be my 1st real model after a twister bell 47, which is far too easy to fly.

Trex 450 SE V2 is the best one out there.

I am increasingly sceptical of all the hype out there, but I have just test flown my 450 SE V2 ( yesterday) and it was brilliant. Can't comment on the merits or demerits of any of the others but my Trex is the nuts

I have a Trex 450 S CF im still getting my set-up right (hard with my limited knowledge) but its a very nice heli to build

love my trex 450SE and its only a poor old V1 thats been bent more than once, but it just bounces back. so I recon the V2 has just got to be great. thats what I would recommend

Trex 450se v2 with the right gear fitted is Awsome forget the rest they dont even come close,

I flew a Twister for a couple of months and had plenty of fun trying to fight the wind thats constantly blowing in the UK.
Once I thought I'd mastered it I bought a Trex 450SE and promptly crashed it after about 8 seconds . I thought I'd just broken the blades and replaced them....then took off again and crashed it spectacularly. Turns out in the first crash I'd destroyed a servo and bent the main shaft, like a complete prat I was too impatient to check it properly and just took it up again. In the second crash I took out the remaining servo's, bent all the other shafts, bent the tail in half, etc, etc.

The good news is that its easy to rebuild and not overly expensive, cost me about £65 to replace everything and get a spare set of wooden blades. The fella at the shop set it up and showed me how to do it.

The important thing is to keep your sense of humour and remember its only money.

Now I can hovver it reasonably well and do some basic rotations.

The twister was good fun but lured me into a false sense of ability, the Trex is an alogether different animal, not hugely difficult if you take your time but much faster and requiring much better stick skills, things happen much faster than the slow moving twister.
If I was on a budget I'd probably have bought the Mini-Pred, even if you write it off its only £200, a fully kitted out Trex SE is going to hit you for over £500 with the radio gear, then maybe £50-odd a time when you crash it...and you will.
I'm fortunate in that I can afford to throw money at it every time I crash but if the money is an issue then I imagine there will be some tears and hand wringing trying to learn with a Trex 450SE.

Do your Research on the Mini Titan

You will find reports of Trex owners selling up to switch over to the Mini T.

It is just as nice to fly more stable and 3D capable.

It doesn't have any where near as much Bling! (i hate that word! CNC machined upgrades is more accurate) but it is it seems just as good as the Trex 450 se. if not better

Its much much cheaper!!

It will be my choice when i buy my next heli

Also check out the new Hurricane 550 very affordable 30 size heli for the same price bracket as a Trex 450se

Any of the helis that have been recommended will fly well if set up well so you cant really go wrong!

In my limited experience I'd tend to agree with that, I researched stuff quite thoroughly before I made my purchase.
Again IME when you ask people who have been flying for years they tend to advise you to buy stuff that they would like to fly...which isn't necessarily the best stuff to learn on - in just the same way that I used to race motorcycles professionally, so if someone asks me which bike to buy I'd tend to lean towards high end quality machines, when in reality they need an inexpensive hack to learn on.

And harking back to my earlier post it all depends on budget, with unlimited funds I'd buy a 90 and a truckfull of spares and just hack away at it.
If I was on a tight budget I'd look for something basic which would give me a gradual transition to higher end machines.

The Trex 450 is undoubtedly a better machine and if set up for a beginer its no harder to fly than anything else, the question to ask is do you have the budget to buy it and then repair it. You're looking at an initial purchase around £600 and I've since spent maybe £150 since.

Obviously I'm a beginner too and could be talking absolute cobblers....although I've just gone through the process and decisions you are trying to make now.

BEST? Well, I think the TRex 450SE v2 seems to be the best.

The minipred is a cheap and cheerful toe-dipping exercise. Only buy one if you're unsure that you'll take to the hobby and/or have limited funds.

You have all said what i thought you would. The T-rex sounds like the best available electric helicopter out there, but it's not cheap. Ultimately thats what I want to end up with. However given the number of crashes i'm likely to have and the expense of them all I'm just not sure. I'm not against spending £500, but is it ideal for an almost complete beginner? should i just buy cheaper (not nescessarily the mini pred ) and spend less on repairs to the point where i'm not going to crash as much and then buy the T-REX.

Or is that never gonna happen and i'm always gonna break them, so i may as well buy the correct thing to start with?
