  • Blade 450 3D ? worth waiting for ? Is it that much better than the 400

Looking to move to CP and haven't the time to build/set up a Trex 450/500 from scratch, also would need Lipo's and decent charger/supply. So wondering what the collective opinion was on the Blade 450 vs 400.

Also is the cost difference going to mean I'm actually going to be better biting the bullet and say getting a Fast Lads built Trex 450 package. Then will need approx 4 Lips & balancing charger.

    Any help appreciated

P.S. I have a Dx6i tx so looking at BnF

Id go for a t Rex all day long, nice and easy to work on and parts are nice and cheap. You can pick a good pre built 2nd hand one up off eBay and 4 lipos from hk will cost you around 50 quid.

I got a blade 400 and I think it's great for me to learn all the basics on .. So far I have had 3 crashes now blade spares are cheaper compared to trex .. I have the money for my trex 450 / 500 (not sure which yet) .. I. U can fly then the blade is good also a friend of mine has flown my blade and looks spot on and is capable of 3d .. As for blade 450 surely gona be better than 400 .. Soon as I'm flying circuits I be gettin my trex .. U have flight sim ?

I know u don't wanna build heli which was similar to me but it will be a case havin to when u have ur first crash .. So building from scratch may also be a good idea if u went for a trex .. I've had my blade now in complete bits but all the help I've had off here to setup and repair has been spot on .. Also YouTube ..

I think there is nothing more satisfying than building your own heli, then seeing it hover for the first time. Inevitably you're gonna crash at some point and knowing every little nut and bolt makes repair time much quicker.
Every rtf heli I've ever bought has had an average setup, never 100%.

Nah tbh its just like the blade 400 just slightly bigger and if you were going to do hard 3d it probaly wont be able to cope with the hard manouvers

It's not just the heli. It's the bits inside. Generally the better the quality of all the bits, the less it will crash. Getting a trex prebuilt sounds a good idea. Getting someone to check it over and fly it for you is even better. A 500 is easier to fly than a 450. Depends on what you've flown before and who you react when the heli is flying towards you.

The servos have more torque than the blade 400 stock. About double. Still seem to like nylon gears while the rest of us go for metal (or Karbonite for cheapos like me).

I wonder if the new digital servos can be used at digital rates( the blade 400 digitals couldn't).

It's aimed at the advanced flyer. I don't understand that. Advanced flyers would want a rigid body and flybarless.

Good price though. Although a clone would be cheaper and better quality for the money.

Gyro is meant to be better, according to E-Flite the blade400 one had issues.

ESC is 35A as against 25A for the blade400.

Will Boggy be able to calm it down for beginners who want to start with an advanced Heli?

I'm quite new to the world of Helis and as such not yet very good, but I have had the Blade 400 for a good few months now and just got a used T-Rex 450 pro from Ebay, £280 BNF.

I find the T-Rex so much more stable and confidence inspiring (might not be a good thing!), but thats obviously against the old 400, not the 450.

Well, thats my first post done now )

I think the t Rex range is hard to beat from beginner through to full 3d. You can set them up to your ability and they are nice and easy to work on. In my opinion anything else is a compromise.

Well thanks for the opinions guy's.

I have Phoenix SIM v3 and fly lot's of stuff on it, but compared to the CX2 and the 120SR I have, I find the 'real thing' both more involving and although possibly more difficult to fly than the sim, I get a lot more out of/learn faster 'real flying'.

I have crashed & rebuilt, and both the CX2 and 120SR fly better now I've rebuilt them & set them up. The 120SR is even OK outside with the more aggressive set up on my Dx6i.

I really want something 450 size that I know flies well out of the box to pick up the basics on a CP heli, hence the attraction of a B400/450 even if I crash/rebuild/upgrade. I just want to know it's OK from day one. This is partly as we have a 1/2 acre field at the back of the house I can fly in without having to go far.

Once I get the flying skills on a CP 450 size I would then like to possibly build my own. Hope this all makes sense.

So if I go for a Trex 450, which model, which batteries, & lipo charger then (money not necc restricted on this as would want to use it for poss a 600 later on)? Had a look at the Voltz ones on FLads are they any good/any other suggestions chaps?

Go for the SE v2 450 as it's a quality bit of kit. You'll pick one up off eBay with a few lipos and extras for around 250 quid.
If you need more lipos buy the turnigy 2200 25c from hobbyking. You'll get them for around 15 quid each. Take a cpl weeks to come but they're very good quality.
If you wanna charge your lipos quickly then get the IMAX b6 quad charger. Balance charges 4 lipos at once in around an hour. cost you around 200 quid with power pack.
If your gonna stick with the hobby that's the way I'd go.
Or you can buy a Jp lipro for 65 quid but you can only charge one at a time. Both will charge all size lipos.
With all the above you'll get plenty of good quality flying and know you've got some good kit and a heli you can get spares nice and cheap and next day.
                          Hope this helps:-)

I'm pretty sure the Blade 450 is the same size as the Blade 400. They're both in same size bracket as the TRex 450. They probably figured it would sell better with the number 450.

My old Blade 400 I got s/h with a load of spares and an HK450 kit thrown in so I can't complain. The servo gears strip at the least little knock/hard landing. I can see an upgrade coming soon. The gyro on mine holds well for learning on. How well it holds when chucked about is another thing.

The TRex450 SEv2 I got a bit later IS more stable but it's also more sensitive to inputs so it's swings and roundabouts on which is easiest to fly.
The TRex 450 is defo the better heli though. Again, I got mine from here s/h and it's a nice one too.
