There's no right or wrong about it. The blade 400 is fully capable of advanced 3D. Not many Trex pilots upgrade to a standard Blade 400.
The Blade servos are about the worse thing as they have very weak nylon gears. They will strip in the slightest crash. The novelty of changing the gears at £3 a time soon wears off and before long you'll have spent more than if you'd bought better servos. Almost everything about the Blade will cause aggravation.

As for which Clone, there is a simple answer. Anyone. I bought the HK450MT for about £40 from Giant Cod. Various errors on it but nothing that couldn't be fixed. A cheap £10 motor, HS65HB servos and a second hand Futaba GY410 gyro. The esc from my Twister Storm (Blade 400 clone), the only thing I could salvage.

I lost 3 months trying to find out why I kept getting blade strikes, only to find out it was the original servo that worked perfectly until the revs hit hovering level, then its output rotated all by itself and drove the blades into the boom.

Anyway, don't forget the spares. As a minimum I'd get
      Main shaft
      Feathering Shaft
      Main blade
      Spare servo gear set
      Flybar

Most heli pilots will have more spares than that, that's not just for newbies.
