You're not far from me (I'm in Haverhill), although I'm not sure I can really help as I only do nitro helis - no small electric stuff for me.

What I do know is that small lecky helis can be very twitchy and bettered about by gusts of wind, so are generally considered to be harder to fly than larger IC models.

Of course you have to go with what the budget, wife and available time allows, but when you've decided what to get, let me know if you need any help setting-up and test flying etc.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I unfortunately missed out on Philmons Heli so I think I will go for a new one. I have downloaded FMS and got it working on my laptop but it is obviously very limited without a controller!

Is anybody familiar with the esky training software (is this FMS?)? Any good, I thought one option is just to spend the £25 on the esky simulator that includes a USB controller and do a bit of practise at the moment. Once I have a sense of how reliably I can fly, I can then choose to get a contra rotator or my hearts desire of a CP heli like the mini-pred.

I do not really have anywhere indoors to fly so i am going to be waiting for really calm days so I can fly outside (I know an even bigger driver for a nitro!). If I am only going to be flying outside on very calm days does that effect the balance between choosing a contra rotator (Esky R22) and a CP (min-pred)? R22 seams quite a bit smaller.

ed if your running fms on your lappy you can configure a basic two stick game controler to act as your transmiter......not ideal but better than keys which dont give you proportional movement.
as little as £9.99 at maplins, pc world etc

well i think you would be fine buying the E-SKY robins and train on the fms with the transmitter,,I KNOW they say that these helis are indoors only but they are so small that a room in yer house is perfect,, and you really will have a good laugh with IT and they train you so much better than a sim will,, i fly mine around the house up the stairs etc etc good practice!!!!

no but they make pc controllers for games on the pc seem like the ps2 controllers because they are such a comfortable and well known design.

however if u bought boogie recomendation or have a ps2 controller already you can buy adaptors for it so it will conect to a pc.

also an xbox 360 controller is usb and will work...

here is one that will work and is designed for a pc... http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...217601&doy=3m6

The esky robins or any of the contra rotating helicopters will fly in very limited indoor spaces, And fly in good conditions outside,
Some of the small Cp helicopters will only be flyable in large indoor venues and still only capable of flying out doors when very calm so be carefull with your choice you dont want to end up with some thing you need a sports hall or a very calm day to fly,
If you realy want a CP electric heli look towards the trex anything else will just cost you more in the long run

Thanks to you all (I am going to give up handing out the thank you's as I would be thanking everybody - or is that the idea!).

I am going to get myself down to maplin in the morning and get a controller to get me practising tommorow and then order a robins 22. I have just been looking at mini-preds on youtube and there seam to be many fantastic flights that quickly end in a destroyed heli!!

                            [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmHI4HoKtZw[/ame]

All the R22s look to remain in one piece! I can then practise on the SIM and Robins 22 while I save up for a bigger and better Heli. Seams that should be a Trex or a mini pred if I can't rasie to the £500 bar?

One last question (OK I am sure there will be more!), does the R22 include a USB lead for the Tx or is that something I need to buy - if so where from?

The robins 22 tx doesnt come with any training lead and is fitted with the mini din type training socket,
you will have to get a adaptor to fit whatever lead you get

Thanks for all your help people.

Gaza07, I followed your links and purchased the ESky R22 from Alshobbies and the battery and lead for conecting the transmitter to the computer from the ebay chap. Just have to hope alshobbies delivers quickly. The website seamed slightly vauge about postage costs and delivery times and stircktly insist you wait three days before contacting them!

Boggie & fatmantom thanks for the controller advice, I got one from maplin this morning. It is a bit sensetive and requires recalibration each go but for £8 it will keep me practising until the R22 and lead arrive - great!

                                Thanks.
