  • Help with a Flasher 250 setup

I wasn't sure if this should go in the setup advice section or this beginners one. It's certainly a question from a beginner!

I have progressed from a mSX, CX3, mSR and recently a 120 SR plus a lot of time on a Phoenix sim. I am fairly confident on them with hovering and basic manoeuvre standard on the SR's. I have had both a Flasher 450 and a Flasher 250 tucked away for a bit ready to go. They have both been setup by my LMS and bound to my Futaba T12FG. As most of my opportunities at the moment are limited to indoor flying in a very large hall with the local club I am concentrating on the Flasher 250 which I tool to the club last night. None of the members are seasoned heli pilots but the main comment I got was that the rotor speed was far too high. I didn't have the nerve to lift it off so thought I would ask advice instead as there was a lot of conflicting remarks coming forth at the time. When the lad at the model shop set it up he did comment the head speed was high but it should be ok and make it all the more controllable which conflicted with last nights comments at the club. So opinions appreciated. And if I do want to reduce the rotor speed what is th best way to go about it bearing in mind I am using a 12FG. I noticed one of the knobs is set to throttle hover trim which is defaulted to 30%. This seems to give a bit to throttle adjustment at mid point (hover). Will this work or is it best practice to start adjusting the throttle curve to keep the speed down.

With all the little electrics teh rotor speed is the key to them being handlable teh 250 would have a head speed of between 2500 and 3000 which fromwhat you describe probably a room full of depron flyers would seem a little vigerous. (bear in mind thay can fly on 10 rpm and a piece of cardboard) for a 250 set the 12FG as a flat line at about 85% for normal and 90% on idel up. Its teh same set up as my 450 just tweaked a lil bit...

Thanks for that Steve. When you say a flat line at 85%. Do you mean set the throttle curve so it's a straight line from zero at bottom throttle and 85% at full throttle?

So every point is at 85%.

        Pos 1 - 85%
        Pos 2 - 85%
        Pos 3 - 85%
        Pos 4 - 85%
        Pos 5 - 85%

I would agreed with the man in the model shop.

Hang on i upload a couple of pics.

Thats the setting for IDEL UP1

          and the setting for NORMAL

The normal setting allows the head speed to accelarate gently to full RPM by mid stick (or zero pitch) and then its constant above that

Ok. Shows how little I know. I didn't expect the motor to be running at almost full speed so quickly.

I think most 250 helis run with a far higher headspeed than 3000 rpm although I have to say I've never checked mine as it flies fine. Just sounds like an angry wasp

Don't put 85 at the bottom in your normal curve, those numbers are for idle up. If you are not using idle up, then maybe 0, 50, 85, 85, 85 in your normal throttle curve.
                Cheers,

hi there just read your reply to wrong way and seen your photos of the throttle curve.i've just got a flasher 250 aswell although now its more trex,i woundered if you would recomend a pitch curve to be the same as the throttle curve in normal flite mode.
                    cheers rich
