  • Blade 400 set up on Phoenix

    Hello,

By way of introduction this is my first post, I am completely new to RC helicopters, indeed to any RC model flying, and have bought myself a Blade 400 3D. I hope to

Having read various forums after ordering the Blade, I realised I really needed to buy sim software also, so bought Phoenix as it was mentioned positively so many times. However I have not found any discussion around the setup of the DX6i when used in Phoenix.

The problem I have is that I cannot get my head round why the Blade 400 is set up the way it is in the DX6i. It makes it impossible to fly in Phoenix, and really makes me worry about ever starting the real helicopter up.

Whenever I increase the throttle/collective, the helicopter pitches and rolls wildly forwards and to the left. It makes controlling it literally impossible if the throttle is pushed fully up as there is not enough pitch and roll available on the right hand stick to counteract the adverse effects.

I have noticed that if one of the other models is used in the memory and set to helicopter type, it is MUCH easier to control (I still cannot hover satisfactorally yet, even on this setting).

Can anybody tell me what is going on? I have searched Google but cannot find this anywhere.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

You have the Phoenix model on the DX6i setup incorrectly. I suggest you read the manual on how to set it up. I believe you need to set it to 1serv90 for it not to do this.

      HI mate and welcome

the requirements for phoenix and for your blade 400 are very different from the perspective of DX6i setup.

You will need to setup a new model on your DX6i using one of the spare memories (it has 10 in total)

have a look at this thread it should give you all the info you need.

IF you have any more questions after following this then post away.

Ill just re-itterate (as its important) Setup a new model in your DX6i - DO not change the blade400 settings in your DX6i

and it will have to be configured so the swash mixing is 1serv90 otherwise the heli will tip over on lift off.

also I read somewhere before connecting the training lead to phoenix set the epa/travel adj to +-125 in a dx6i +-150 on dx7 and this will give better range for collective and cyclic.

Excellent, thank you all for the advice.

I had been really worried there for a while.

I have put those settings from the other thread in and it is a big relief that flying this thing looks achievable to me!

Regarding the settings for actual flight, I have followed a video posted on the manufacturers website that showed a more gentle set up for beginners (copied it into model 2 memory).

          Cheers,
