haven't crashed for a bit - mainly as I am quite confident with my 'right way up' flying. I did loose it a couple of times at the indoor meets trying to push myself - flying backwards and flipping indoors, but with sim practice I was able to recover without a crash.

Anyone progressing without a single crash is lying or have been lucky and fluked not crashing lol

I prefere to fly the right way up to reduce the chances of a crash and expense of a repair. Saying that, the next time I go flying I want to practice my inverted hovering. Going to 2.4GHz has saved me allot of cash - I was crashing due to radio lockout than pilot error or mechanical failure.

All last year i flew, had 4 crashes, 3 where mechanical, one was my fault, i cld just about fly a decent circuit in march, now im doing alsorts, funnels, 4point tic tocs if i can not bog it, really low ali tictocs, but nitros helped me alot, loads of stick time, ive quite hard to get where i am, but i do get those moments where i really thought it was going in lol

        Dear All

Have not had a chance to check this thread for a couple of days and was very pleased to see so much debate and so many different points of view.

Just wanted to say thanks to you all, it has definately made me think about how to progress.

        Cheers

Well said martin..... I want to got scale soI do not really try to do 3D I just like to hover my Raptor and fly my Blade 400 around etc. I know that crashes happern with this hobby and the more you try the more you may crash but cant afford to crash and repair every week.

If you aint crashing , you aint trying hard enough!....what a stupid philosophy.

how many F1 drivers would stay in their team if they keep putting a £xxx.ooo car into the wall?

how many premiership footie players would be on their team if they kept dislocating a knee, or breaking a leg?

the list is endless, I agree you need to keep pushing yourself to improve but push youself just beyond your comfort zone each time is enough to improve without the expense of a rebuild.
OK if you have an unlimited amount of cash, great push hard crash and learn the quick way, but to say "if you aint crashing , you aint trying hard enough" is utter bo**ocks.

crashing I agree is part and parcel of this sport/hobby, be it mechanical/pilot error, but learning a new routine or manouver is surely but practised on a sim to you can do it 10/10 then try it in the real world with at least some degree of confidence.

I think as has already been said by Tom you need to ask yourself "what am I aiming for?"

For me I knew pretty early on I wanted to get to a good standard as quickly as possible. I wanted to be able to fly everything pretty low and enter competitions as soon as I could. I piled on the pressure on myself because that's what I always do....set myself a challenge and go for it. During the first year I had numerous crashes, did hours on the sim, burned around 130 gallons of fuel and cost myself quite a lot of money.

The thing is I knew what I wanted and it was my decision. The problem comes from seeing all these amazing flyers on Youtube or hearing stories of this person or than learning to chaos in 2 weeks. You start wondering what you did wrong and why you are not progressing as quickly.

There is no right or wrong here - just your budget and sanity and available time at the field. It's your hobby, be realistic and know your own limits.

One other point is most of my failures on the model came after crashing. I learned the hard way that you MUST check over your heli and get someone else to as well before flying again. I do this even no, I get Mattie Lodge to look over my heli before I fly again.

Your right about Matt!.... he saved my Vibe 50 by glancing at it from 50 paces!

"Are you planning on flying that today mark" he said! with a fleeting glance over the machine.

"Might want to replace the cracked washout arm before you do mate" he said!

Needless to say, he was spot on and taking it to the air would have resulted in a very possible dissaster.

I thank you again for that mate... very well spotted and a great lesson in thorough checks.

As far as progression goes, i tend to go in waves but i could push harder. I'm in it to get good and for the rewarding feeling that progression gives but at the same time i enjoy the pace i'm going at and the rewards are there as they come.

Life can be stressful enough for me without adding undue pressure and i rarely crash which means more flying time and money for fuel/lipos etc.

I do get a massive rush when i pull off a new move and theres no better feeling.

I'm hoping for more of the same this season but i will take it as it comes

Well was pushing it hard today but no crashes thank god....lol
We all go through those crashing phases, when trying to learn new stuff but i learnt my lessons in the early years and practise hard on the sim first any new moves, but there is always the odd occation when things just don't go right.

yuo learn on the 3rd and 4th flights after you settle down. If youare nervous stick to what you know for a flight or two.
DO NOT - "think this is not a good day for me I'm all nervous" and pack up after one flight!
