What is the best way to get this into the engine, through the carb, or take out the glow plug, can I just skirt some in the fuel line through the carb would this be acceptable, how do you guys do it .

After run oil.

At the end of the day, I take out the plug to check it, and at the same time squirt in some after-run oil. Have been trying to work out a better way, like through a syringe into the carb via a small hole in the fan casing...

I got my after run oil from fastlad. This is a quote from there site
"Note never pour into the carb as this may cause o-rings to deteriorate. The easiest way to use is to drop 1 - 2 small drops either directly into the plug hole or into the open exhaust port."
So I just put it in the plug hole

I dont actually use after run oil, I use a 50/50 mix of air tool oil and ATF so this doesnt damage the rubber components.Originally posted by fudded View PostI got my after run oil from fastlad. This is a quote from there site

Not arguing with what they say, thier experience with helis outweighs mine, But as an engineer, i would be surprised if after run oil could damage the o rings on a carb,,, its what o rings are supposed to do !.......Originally posted by fudded View PostI got my after run oil from fastlad. I put a couple of ml in a syringe, Connect it to the carb in place of the fuel line, Open throttle fully then spin the engine with the starter whilst I "Inject" it, then pull the syringe back and push air through while i spin it again.
....................Off to do some research on what after run oil is and what type of o rings are on the carb...... If after run oil will damage them... I'm changing 'em !!!SWRCH ,

I would rather replace a couple of O-rings than scrap the head by continually taking the plug in and out. Just use a bit of fuel tube on a syringe, open carb, couple of drops in and then spin over. Not even sure how this would get at the o-ring in great quantity ??.

As I understand it some fully synthetic oils can damage rubber. I would look at what Gate88 is using. Air tool oil doesn't rot rubber as there are rubber seals in air tools.i would be surprised if after run oil could damage the o rings on a carb
EDIT: Valvoline FAQ on Full-Synthetic Motor Oil
Does using synthetic oil damage engine seals?
No. Synthetic oils are perfectly safe for all rubber seals.Last edited by Andy from Sandy; 10-02-2010, 06:00 PM.

I can see the reasoning behind that, to be honest I only ever use after run If im sure Im not going to be flying/starting for a while. It would be easier to put the ARO in the carb, I think the glowplug in a trex 700 can be a b*tch to replace. I just followed the instructions from FLOriginally posted by Si_B View PostI would rather replace a couple of O-rings than scrap the head by continually taking the plug in and out. Have found a few engine/model manuals that state to put a few drops of after run oil down the carb.
One thing i have noted, looking at a few of the after run oil producers... They dont state "Do not put into carb" or any other warnings........
But If someone like fastlads say not to.. what do ya do ! Either from experience or manufacturer literature they have that info .......
I use model Technics AR oil, So i will give em a ring tomorrow and come back with thier answer......

Just wondering what the benefit of two drops of oil through the plug hole are - the bearings that corrode are in the crankase so surely better to go in through the carb or backplate? I've not had a problem with the ring or liner going rusty yet
