Steve I think it's more an issue with people who store the heli away for a while and leave fuel residue in the engine. I had an engine that I bought off of ebay that was well rusty and it was due to long storage without AR. I ended up cleaning it up and soaking it in WD40 and Lubrication (which cleans rust). Soaked all the bearings for a few days in the stuff and rebuilt the engine. While I thought the engine was a goner, the new owner of it who bought it as a non-runner with a heli I sold managed to get it running

After run oil ( from Model Technics) is a mineral oil with anti-rust properties, it will not affect the o-rings in the carb in normal use. I am sure that if you were to boil the o-ring in oil it will swell up and damage it. I am not sure what transmission fluid is like but if its like brake fluid it will eat o-rings for breakfast ( that said its commonly used in the USA to flush out model engines).

        Thanks for your reply heliphil.

For me, the swelling possibly to the o-rings by the oil is less worrying than the rust on
the bearings, And as already stated, the oil should not contact the o-rings by being injected through the carb.
Guess the question does get more complicated if you are talking about the more complex engines with a pump etc.

I have been using WD40 in my nitro car engines as an after-run oil for years now without any problems of seal swelling etc and it smells nice when you start it up later!

Ever since I got my first heli, a honey bee king, I was told NEVER use wd40 on any part of the heli, as WD40 will eat anything rubber eventualy. I use silicone spray, but I wouldnt use WD40 as an after run.
