  • Newb Alert!

    hi Guys, newbie here

i'm a relative newbie to helis but been racing RC for a while so i have some understanding about RC!
i bought a Sceadu about 4 years ago & spent quite a bit on a good radio & electrics etc but was getting so much grief off the then missus i eventually relented & got rid of it
well she's been gone 2 years now & a buddy called me the other day & offered me his complete outfit for what seemed to me to be a sensible price so naturally i bought it

i got a Raptor 50 with quite a few good bits on it & i'm looking forward to getting it airborne this spring before we get too involved with the Nationals etc (1/8 Rallycross)

so any advice or pearls of wisdom ?

i realise there is a lot to learn & i'm rading everything i can at the moment trying to take it all in! i've got G3 but i need to uprade my graphics card to run it so i can't start practising yet unfortunately!

plan is to spend as much time on a sim as my brain can take & then try it for real in a couple of months!

    anything i should/need to know

    thanks in advance

You got rid of the Mrs....Sounds like you are wise enough!!

One bit of advice......Next time get rid of Mrs before Heli....you need to get priorities sorted.

well after the way things turned out i wish i had done it that way round!

      hindsight is a wonderful thing

i went up to the farm we can use for flying the other day & i saw my mate stick his Rap50 in the ground, it does seem to make a mess of them!

we didn't even find all the bits!

was funny though, he's looking forward to me crashing mine now

it did have a distinctive sort of crunch to it

i missed a good one at one of the Buggy tracks we race at last year!
a mate Russ was attempting to fly his 30 & apparently the linkage came off the carb & it went kinda haywire, after a while it stuck the tail in & lost the blades so as you can imagine there was some wild spinning then it went onto its side & went off up the field like a rotorvator!

onlookers described it as hilarious but were hard pressed to judge the funniest between the runaway rotorvator or his facial expression!

i hope i have better luck

i do want to get "straight in there" once i start flying & i don't mind jumping in at the deep end!
i've known guys in the past who just kinda fanny around with their flying & never really seemed to progress, ideally i'd like to be good straight off but its pretty obvious that aint gonna happen

i know it will go in & i will have to fix it so i just hope i can spend a little time learning between repairs

would it be worth getting a flight box?
i've not got much in the way of heli stuff to cart around so far but i guess that will grow everytime out. But most of them look a bit pony!

i've never really been a fan of wooden stuff either, its nice as flooring or furniture but i'd rather have some good old non bio-degradable plastic

I used to use a flight box, but these days I find a toolbox far more useful.
Picked one up from B&Q for about a tenner.
I cut out a hole in the front of it to fit my starter panel into - stick a battery inside, along with starter, glow extension lead and chargers etc.
My fuel comes in round gallon bottles so they didn't fit my flight-box anyway!

                              Cheers,
                              Rob
