  • Next Model Recommendation

Been really enjoying learning to fly a heli with my Medevac. Just about mastering nose in hovering, and the bug has definitely bitten. Looking forward to the (hopefully not too distant) future, I was wondering what the next logical progression would be, model wise? Think I'd like to stay electric for the simplicity and cleanliness. Possibilities I have thought of include the Twister, Trex 450 or Eco 8. Any thoughts on any of these, or other suggestions?

    Hi Scarecrow,
Would you be wanting a model for indoor or outdoor use and how much would you be thinking of spending?

Probably outdoor, but with the ability to be used indoors (large sports hall). Cost isn't too much of a problem up to about £500.

In that case, I think you're looking something like a Trex 450 or the new Mini Titan. The Trex has been around since the Earth first cooled and many versions and upgrades have evolved. Never had one myself, but the up-market ones are well thought of. The Mini Titan is the new kid on the block. Mine is groovy. Well recomended.
Of the others you mention, I think you'll find the Twister, and any other micros, a bit of a handfull outdoors and the Eco 8 is old and very outdated now. Anything bigger won't be indoorable.

There are many others, but the Trex, with readily available and cheap spares, plus the wealth of experience that's around for it, has got to be high on your list. I think the Mini Titan is going to give it some competition though.

larger nitro helis are actually simpler and easier to setup than small electrics.

next progression i would think would be phoenix. gives you a chance to fly various types of models and decide what you like.

obviously an excellent learning tool too.

I have gone from small electric, (bell twister47), but agree with Ade, I have a Raptor30, it is so much easier to fly than the Twister 3D I also have, more stable and more forgiving, my advice, apart from getting a Sim, Join a club, and learn with them

I'd say get a Walkera 60b like mine but upgraded properly...

                http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Walkera-60-ULT...QQcmdZViewItem

Then you can save up a bit and get a raptor 50 or similar for outside when the weather gets better.

You can get a lot for your money with the Walera 60 - check out the listing before you slate it guys it's a good setup.

                  Avoid the Walkera crap.

Go for a 30 or 50 Nitro in the end your gonna be better off.

With 500 you might get a nitro machine and be able to join a Club the best place for learning helicopters.
