modern radios don't need xtals necessarily, you can have a synth system in both tx and rx so you can dial in the channel you want to use.
Look through this forum and you will find a thread that explains about how the dx 2.4Ghz syatem works, which is a step beyond the syth modules on 35Mhz.
There is an rx/scanner in the tx as well as a transmitter.
Yuo switch tx on first and it scans for a free slot in the vast number of channels in the 2.4Ghz band.
when it is ready you switch the rx on and it tunes in to the strongest signal from your close tx.
Thus you can arrive at the flying site and switch on without worry about frequencies.
someone else with a 2.4Ghz will not arrive and transmit on your channel becuase their tx will find you are occupying the channel and it will choose another.
To have two sets interfere they would have to have both been switched on and working far enough apart to not hear eachother, and then be moved closer together. Plus they would need to be by chance on the same channel.
It all sounds great doesn't it!
The DX6 system is low power short range - ok for small models.
The Dx7 system can also drive the dx6 rx with short range or the two part dx7 rx with full range.
If these systems prove to be robust then it will be the way for us all to go because it gives us protection from being shot down which is big fear for those who fly big expensive models in busy places, especially as there a lot of 35 Mhz radios flying out of toy shops at the moment.www.heli-extreme.co.uk a good club in south Sheffield

I think if you had 2 Dx7`s far enough apart to not interfere than brought them together there would still be no problem
As you know,it transmits on 2 channels at once so both Tx`s would have to both be using the same channels as if one is corrupted the Rx uses the other,,also the Rx is bonded to your Tx only so it will disregard another Tx
Also i think it may frequency hop but im not sure if this is correct or not
Either way, lockouts are unlikely,,the Spektrum land based stuff does not interfere with the air based stuff so interference could only happen if another flier nearby had a DX7 and your model flew within his range, but you need all the above to happen before problems if at all

im pretty sure they requency hop so even if your model moved into range of a tx using the same 2 freqs it would hop one then the other to new freqs without you ever seeing it.
