It's always been that way! You think a Twister is expensive you should have got a Piccolo! £20 for the plastic fixed pitch swashplate, £60 for the alloy version!

Bonkers. My SJM400 woke me up regarding spares prices, £25 for 3 sets of main blades, 3 tail blades, 3 carbon booms, 3 main gears, 3 main shafts, 3 tail shafts , and 3 of a couple of other small shafts and gears.

Suffice to say the piccolo sits in a box with a broken swashplate now!

      Mini Pred

      Hi Guys.
I bought a Mini Pred 4 months ago. Initialy I broke it very quickly so I put it away and loaded up the sim that came with it. Spent 10 to 15 mins per day with this until I got an idea of what heli flying was all about. The next step was to ditch the transmitter that it came with the MP and get it set up on one of my JR computor trannies. Flattening out the pitch curve and putting in 50% exponential on the pitch and roll axis has transformed the beast into a very managble machine. Now happliy hovering about in the garden. 6 full term flights in the last two weeks and no breakages. Hope this helps.

        Hi,

i also have a mini pred wich im extreamly happy with, im new to helis also, but not to rc, iv been around elecrtic cars, ic cars, gliders and ic fixed wing planes since i was at school and im 37 now!

i baught a twin blade Twister bell 47 about 2 months ago, just for a bit of fun really as the wether was so crap, but after the initial getting used to the controls i found it so much fun that i baught my Pred. aside of the motor burning out (this i think was due to my constant running of the heli without giving it time to cool down) £20 from Century and a pair of woodn blades £10 its cost me nothing and given me so much fun in the last week or so. i find it responsive and forgiving as long as you dont go at it like a hooligan, i fly it twice a night every night and think its grate!

i would however take the advice of thies guys, a good sim and/or a small indoor twin blade machine is a good starting point.

Right well as usual im new to rc helis. I bought a mini pred a week ago and have so far spent around 100 quid fixing it after a moment of madness.

          Couple of questions.
First any idea whether the pred is any good?
Is it worth replacing breakable parts with aluminium?
Should i get a different chopper rather than spend any more money fixing this on?

And is it always this hard to learn to fly?

Any and all help much appreciated

          Personal comment.
          1) It's gonna cost loads.... get used to it.
          2) Start with a CX2. I think I've spent at least 200 on my CX2. 3 inner shafts, 2 vcanopies, new motors, heat sinks, swash plate, lower rotor heads, and more blades than you can imagine. Of course the bling was my choice.
          3) Get a Phoenix simulator.... cost 80 quid BUT it's just simply amazing....models a lot of heli's (including ones with training gear on) and it feels like a real heli.

If I was you, I'd repair my Pred.... join a club....buy Phoenix and a CX2 ....learn easy on the CX2. You'll get a lot of flight time and pleasure out of the CX2 rather than being dis-heartened with something crashing all the time.

In my honest opinion its a brilliant little heli for the money. I have a few videos of the mini pred if anyones interested in taking a look at them.

The mini pred spares are quite expensive,
The feathering shaft is not very strong and i bent loads at the start.
Carbon blades are a good idea because when you crash they are less likely to hit the boom, i fitted them after righting of a few sets of woods and got on alot better with mine and no more bent booms.
Another mod i did to mine was fit 3 o-ring grommets to both sides of the feathering shaft instead of two and then the slack is taken up and the blades track better as there is quite alot of slack on these parts.
Make sure also you have the switch on the transmitter for the servo travel set to 70% and not 100 as this makes it easier to control in the early days, check with the manual which one it is as i can't remember.
I do agree with the other posts, a sim and conta rotating would be a cheaper option in the long run and shelve the mini pred for a month all two, also trying to learn in windy conditions as we are having at the moment is also not the best as the pred suffers from transitional lift being a little heli.
              Hope this helps
