  • Raptors for beginners ??

    Hi everyone

I've noticed a fair few raptors for sale lately. As some of you know, I've been practicing on phoenix and will probably have an msR pretty soon.

Would one of the nitro raptors be a good purchase ? Or is the cheap purchase price misleading and I'll end up spending more to fix it ?

    Cheers

    Adam

If you get a good one, they are terrific for learning on and progressing.

Takes a lot to out fly a Raptor.

Despite what you WILL be told in this thread.

    Cheers

      Raptors are VERY good helis.

I had my Rappy first & I believe it will be the last I would sell.

They are reliable, cheap to maintain, easy to learn on, spares are everywhere & they can go from tame to 3D as you like.

OK, they won't match a full-out Align or other exotic machinery, but they will keep you going for a year or two at a fraction of the cost.

Do I like mine? Yes. Now converted from 30 to 50 size, which you can't do with many helis.

      Go for one.

The Raptor 30v2 was my first Nitro!

It was best investment i made for learning on... Wish i never sold it!

I will buy another one for sure!

There so reliable.. and they fly so great!

Like most things 2nd hand there are good deals to be had but the key is knowing as much about it as possible and either being able to inspect it in person or see really good pics and get any questions answered by the seller. I bought several Raptors 2nd hand and have done well buy either knowing as sure as possible it was in the condition stated or by getting it so cheap it didn't matter.

(And one I got cheap and then was astonished at how nice it is (Raptor 90) I was thrilled to bits in fact).

In my experience BMFA sellers tend to be more forthcoming and truthful vs Ebay sellers and RCHA sellers are the best but good and bad deals can be had from anywhere.

OK, now it's not sounding very helpful

Basically I'd say, the best bet is knowing really well what you're getting and who it's from. Second to that would be, if in doubt at all then you must get it super cheap just in case it needs work or is not as nice as it is being represented.

(Just to add, Raptors are generally inexpensive to fix unless you have mutliple major things broken)

Like others here the Raptor 30 was my first nitro heli and it's still lots of fun to fly.

Nothing wrong with a raptor to learn on I started as others have said on the raptor, I bought mine on ebay and got caught out, basically didnt know what I was looking at and ended up with really bad servos and an even worse gyro.

But it got me started and with a couple of upgrades(more money) I ended up with a heli that flew very well.
              All the best

I have had my Raptor 50 since 2004, really nice heli to fly - solid and reliable parts are cheap and relatively simple to source, its a tried and tested design and there is a huge amount of info out there for getting the most out of one.

Mine suits me and my flying doesnt get anywhere near its capabilities! Would I like a T-Rex 600 instead...er... no I dont think I would at the moment, I hear they wear out far quicker... However I do plan on adding to my stable with a 450 Pro

The new raptor 50 se titan can match the trex 600. Have a look at some of the videos in youtube. I have a raptor 50 v2 brought second hand and I love the thing. I also have a raptor 50 se titan that is yet to have its maiden. For a first nitro heli the raptor won't bite you. You will find some trex pilots will put down the raptor and raptor pilots put down the trex, on that note remember I said some. Get a raptor, get a trex which ever you go with you will find all help you need here.

Great starting with a raptor cheap and easy to repair! can get parts from anywhere, your skills would have to be great to need more than the Raptor could give you.

I assume I'll be ok with a DX6i ?? At what point do you need a 7ch tx for nitro ?

                          Thanks
