Is it worth buying a piston locking tool for the OS 50 Hyper ?

Hi,

I wrap a towel around the fan and use thread lock on the bolt. Be careful you don't damage the fan as the blades can snap easily! Did mine in April this year and hasnt come loose. I dont think OS will honour the warranty if you knacker the piston or thread in the head.

Problem being that mine has come loose now on my first outing so preferably i guess a locking tool would be the way forward...I obviously never tightened enough first time round, only not sure what to go for ?

Another way is to remove the carb and put a toothbrush handle down the inlet hole. I just dont like the idea of putting lots of strain on the threadi n the head!

Proper tool through the backplate or toothbrush in carb inlet are the only way to go. Never use the tool that screws into the glo plug hole, spawn of the devil

agree dont buy the screw in things that screw in where the glow plug goes!
I removed the backplate off and put a toothbrush handle in there to stop the crank arm (or whatever its called!) moving, and got a solid fitting of my fan and the plastic of the toothbrush dosnt damage the rod.

sorry i dont mean the type that screws in the plug hole, use the one that locks the crank (remove the back plate and simply place over the crank/con rod)

I have old toothbrush that I use to lock the conrod in place while I tighten on the fan.

Is there a proper tool for locking the piston through the back plate?

If so, does it fit all sizes of engine?

If so, how much does it cost and where can it be purchased (a direct product link would be nice if you don't mind)?

there is a proper tool... or rather 2

one fits 30/50 and the other fits 60-90
