First off...Hello everyone I hope it's gonna be fun and educational here

When I say total newbie I mean Total Newbie.

I got my first RC Helicopter just over a week ago and I'm hooked.

I had a couple of those micro copters for xmas and had some fun with them until they died horribly (dead internal battery and total loss of control so returned to the shop in disgrace) I got myself an Easycopter V6 as it seemed a good way to get some experience and learn some basics. Naturally I've had the expected bad landings and crashes into furniture and walls resulting in broken ball rods and mashed rotors but hey... all experience.

I'm lucky that I work in a large workshop so I can play, err practice when it's empty. I'm getting the hang of hovering and moving around in various directions and can also land on top of a fridge sized box so I think I'm doing ok.

There's a couple of things that I'd like to know about Lipo batteries though and I thought this could be the place to find out.

It takes 2 hours to charge using the standard charger. Is there a charger out there that will do it quicker without damaging them? They are 3.7v/1000mah/10C...whatever that means???

Secondly, will I damage them if I only part charge them instead of fully charging them? Say, if I've got one on charge and I need to take it off to go somewhere for instance.

    Many thanks in advance

HI and welcome to the forum.
Your in company as I'm new here too.
As far as I know 2 hours charge is about average for that size of battery And no, you will not harm it by interrupting the charge. The important thing is too not let the battery run too low as this will damage it.

Welcome to the forum billywhizz, depending on the charge rate of your charger, I think 2 hours is a bit too long to charge a lipo.
In your case, the charger is charging the lipo at .5 amp? Thus the 2 hours.

Welcome, you should be able to charge a lipo at 1c, meaning that whatever it's amps are you charge at that, and it will take an hour (or there abouts), if it has a balance lead on it, then buy yourself a balance charger, and you can set the charge rate to whatever, but don't go over the 1c rate or it will damage the battery or possibly explode! (Unless the battery states that it can charge at 2c as some of the newer ones do which will charge in 30 mins!)

Hi, wellcome to the mad house

          Most lipo charge @1C
That said you could use a New type lipo Hyperion G3 can charge 5C. So charge times 15/17mins! Your lucky with size lipo you need most 5/6 cell chargers can do 5C for size cell you need.
Down side you would need to splite a pack so you have 3.4 pack.
Easy enough todo if you can use soldering iron. Pm me if you want more details.

I've been using and abusing the 240mah for few months now and honestly there almost bullet proof! I've over discharged them few times, i fly till i can't 8% left. Only charge them 5c 17 min charge time. Still give the power, flight times 6 1/2 mins. More than 80~100 charges per pack. That would kill most packs on the market today.
          I've not broken a pack yet !!

hey, thanks guys. I'll look into getting a decent charger right away. In the meantime I'll carry on playing every couple of hours.

              One other question though....

My batteries are 3.7v... could I use a higher voltage battery without damaging servos or anything?

If your batterys are only 3.7 volt then you dont need a ballance charger (as its only one cell) so a ballance charger wont give you any advantage for the moment.

the batteries have got 3.7v/1000mah/10c on the back of them... from what I've read online aout lipo's the C is the number of cells which would make it 10 cells... or am I misinformed??

                          Confused slightly ??????

Your 'c' rating is not the number of cells, but the 'max continuous power' that the battery can give. In your case, you have a 1A (1000mah) battery, capable of delivering 10c which is 10 times 1A = 10Amps per Hour.
Hope that is clear enough, cheers, Rob
