  • Align 600 vs Raptor 50

I started looking at nitro RC Helis a couple of years back … purchase got shelved as I built a house instead. Now the house is complete time to get my head straight on my Heli purchase.
At the time when I was looking into this, the TT Raptor 50 was being rated as as good as you can get in terms of value for money, reliability, quality, knowledge base on-line, etc.
I now see that we are up to the Titan 50 SE ………..and had assumed this would be the obvious choice.
However given some food for thought this week, and been told that TT have now lost poll position, and this now belongs to Align T-Rex 600N.
I would be very interested if anybody has any pros & cons for going either route … or links to reviews or comparisons between the 2.
I’m still thinking that 50 size is the better choice for me.

    Welcome all advice.

    Okay

Depends what your end game is....

Raptor solid design takes a bump well and good quaility, slightly heavier than the T-rex 600n, basically solid machine good quality and flys very well.

T-rex 600n Light agile and newer design over the Raptor has metal parts where the raptor doesn't.... Parts 2 in a pack cheap to fix compared to raptors... Quality not as good as the raptors, T-rex 600n better way to go for 3D and they fly okay...

Either machine is good but 600n is lighter and more nimble

50 size always !! ... As for rappy versus align ... Raptor do a good deal on new se with engine and stuff ... here Fast Lad Performance

Nice stable machine to learn on and even 3d with ... For day in day out abuse I would go with a Raptor as they need very little looking after and the bearings are made to last ...parts are not that expensive but not as cheap as align....

Now Align .. nice capable machines and the spares are cheap and everywhere ... but to get them to fly straight is another matter without buying the top end version or paying for some new head bits ....

Align are smaller than a Raptor as well .. Raptor would be my choice to learn on but you can tame a 600 down with different paddles and such ... the choice is yours and what the budget is for the rest of the bits

      Hope this helps

I agree on the Raptor as a great heli to learn on, but also check http://www.modelshopleeds.co.uk/ as their price on the combo was a lot less last time I looked.

            RAPTOR! RAPTOR! RAPTOR!

            There is no comparison!

I've got a 50 V2 and I was getting on fine with it and then I foolishly decided to buy myself an all singing all dancing Trex 600 nsp. I'm not impressed at all.
            What a peice of s**t!
We've spent hours and hours trying to set this nail set up & it's still not flying. After 3 hours of set up we managed a small hover last night but something as simple as a slightly hard landing left it needing a new set of tail blades and gears for the torque tube. More money, more time fiddling and less time flying!

My Raptor laughs off most heli to ground incidents with little more than a flybar, feathering shaft, and a five minute set up!

As soon as it's repaired it will be gracing the pages of ebay with a reserve of 99p but I'm afraid if I'm honest about the complexities of this heli it'll be lucky to make that.

If you like spending hours and hours on your knees making minute adjustments, replacing parts, and pouring cash down the drain, get a TRex, in fact you can have this peice of s**t for a tenner! If you want to actually fly, enjoy the hobby, and spend your money on fuel & blingy parts that you don't need then it has to be a Raptor!

Not really and if you think they do a good deal on that you want to see there deals on T-rex 700's as well....

But Leeds Model Shop are very very good on pricing and often better than some of the better known heli stores......

Isn't the knight the same as the 600n for quaility though

Ever thought about taking up model boats
If you cant get a trex 600NSP setup up maybe you should lol.
Forget the Raptor they are for Girls, if you want a heli that will take you from zero to 3d hero it has to be something alot beter than a Craptor

My advice fwiw would be to go with a newer design.
One that has eccpm where 3 servos share the flight loads on the swash plate.
This is realy the only area that lets the raptor down.
As people have said they are bullet proof but weigh a fair bit more than a newer machine.
You will also need a fairly good pitch servo if you ever wanted to do agressive 3d with one.
Te knight sport is another option you might want to consider,my last one cost me £160
Is a bomb proof as the raptor & has the newer style swash mixing.

                      Yep, love my Raptor

Have recently bought a 600 sport to see what the fuss is about but I'm not about to get rid of the Raptor

It really is as tough as old boots!!

                      Cheers

Both are capable machines, The Raptor's weight does make it more stable and it will still be a capable 3D flyer later on.

Yes, the Align can be heavy on landings. This can be helped by putting on the skids back to front, puts the skids slightly further back that helps to keep the tail off the ground and using a 700N tail fin which is about an inch longer and protects the tail blades and TT gears.

I may be biased as I have 2 600N's, a 700N and a 500, but I have never had a problem setting them up. First flight ever for me was with a 600N and the only adjustment at the field was a turn of a link to setup tracking.

But as always, the best advice is to see what they are a flying at your local field and ask their advice. Their knowledge will be invaluable.

OK ... then maybe I don't necessarily need to change my thoughts away from Raptor.

"Depends what your end game is...."

OK .. my end game (presently) is to have a machine that I can learn, improve, fly and generally get started with ..(already on simulator)
I don't have a burning desire for 3D ... so basic flying, with a machine that is reliable & robust.

"check http://www.modelshopleeds.co.uk/ as their price on the combo"

With the combo deals I assume this is with the TT RedLine Pro 53H.
Is this engine a good way to go ? ........read many positive comments on OS 50SX-H
Not read much anywhere on the 53H.

Am I right that if I did stay with Raptor, then for 50 size, it would make sense to get the Titan 50 SE ? ....... it 'reads' like I would get all the improvements (metal parts etc) that a few years of development have made to the 50.

(ps thanks for all you help here)

Oh & if you still want a Raptor theres always knitting for a hobby
Beleive me trying to knit a model boat would be more fun than a 600NSP!

I'm no expert but I had an expert helping me who's got more equipment than NASA, and after endless finless videos, and fiddling around for over 8 hours in total the thing is still sitting on a bench waiting to have more time & money spent on it!
