  • Toooooo scary

Hi all, Took the Skyfox to the field today straight after work No one else there just me the sun and no clouds or wind. Hovered and flew tail in, practised landings through one tank. All was OK.

On the start of the second tank the landings were still good, I thought what the hell and took off the training gear for the first time.

Its Bloody scarey at 34yrs old theres not much that reduces me to quivering wreck but that did. It seemed so much more liable to tip over, it didnt and wouldnt of but seemed like it could at any minute. I took off and it all seemed wrong no rods and balls hanging underneath to save me.

The first landing was a little nervous and the second and third were a bit shakey but after it was ok, gave myself a headache with all that concentration but it was worth it. the most important thing that occured to me was that I dont have to land, if its too wobbly just go back up and start again. I realised that after about 5 or 6 landings it was almost done second nature. The thing I have to make sure I do is come off the throtle enough, I had a couple where I didnt and after it was down it was still a bit light.

Even seemed worrying flying at height with no training gear, dont know why as it has no benefit, but still.

so anyway a good evenings flying.

    see ya

I hate it when people have great flying days when I have been stuck at work.
When I took a week off, it rained and blew the whole bloody time.

Good to hear you enjoyed yourself though, I found when I first started I was nervous about going more than a few feet off the floor, but of course, with a bit more height, you have more time to react, thus you are less likely to bin it.

Well done, and keep it up, hopefully one weekend the weather will allow us all to enjoy the experience

Well done Col, thats a great step forward

You will find that without the training undercarriage, the model will feel a little more responsive and lively, dont let it put you off, but just be aware of it.

When you are coming in for a landing, I find the best way is to bring the model down to between 4 and 6 inches off the ground, stabilise it so its not moving anywhere over a spot of your choice on the ground, and slowly reduce the throttle until the model settles down on the ground.

Not having a governor at this stage is probably a good thing, as you havent got to worry about switches when you set the model down on the ground. So I would say you really dont need a governor at this stage as it only adds complications you dont need.

If you are at all unsure about any one landing, as has been mentioned already, just climb out a little, hover the model a few feet off the ground, get your breath back and then have another go.

Best of luck and keep up the good work

          Cheers,
          Pete.

            Good going Col

It's a great step as the heli will feel nicer in the air.

On top of what everyone else has said, until you are nice and comfortable without the training gear on, come in to land with a bit of fuel left. Then, if you have to throttle up and go back to the hover and settle yourself down you don't have the worry of having to rush your landing due to lack of fuel.
            Cheers, Lee.

The first time i flew my raptor 50, I forgot to take the training undercarridge with me
The guy who was teaching me said have a go anyway.
                I did that.
                Got on fairly well.
Never bothered using it after that.

If anyone needs an unused training undercarridge for a Raptor 50, I have one at a bargain price
                Never been used
