  • Crash.....landing?!?

Hi guys I haven't written anything for a while. Been so busy at work and home (bloomin DIY).

Anyway, the update is that I crashed my heli at lunchtime today, absolutely no idea why. I'm still learning to hover which I had managed a couple of times. Still get a little intimidated by the damn thing though just thinking about the forces travelling through those little plastic bits'n'bobs but I felt completely relaxed and ready to take off. Applied some power, had the pitch I was used to (i know this because i ran through a checklist everytime i started up and shut down the heli - good heh!), applied a little more power and WHOOOOSH! The tail flipped round quicker than I've ever seen a tail spin and before I knew it the heli barrel rolled into the dirt.
The only thing I'm happy about was the amount of damage that it did to the lawn. There's a big slice in a loverly arc and it's fairly deep too

No the annoying part is what do i do with it? I bought the heli pre built 2nd hand which is why i'm probably not THAT gutted. Problem I now have is although the damage doesn't look too bad there seems to be little bits of plastic 'missing' (i mean apart from the obviously things like the rotor blades and tail blades all need replacing) and I don't know what they are called as I didn't receive a handbook with it.

I'm thinking use it for spares. Electrics and gyro survived the crash. Boom is bruised, blades all damaged or missing lol, plastic bits 'gone' , canopy smashed and useless and basically i want a better heli Weirdest thing that snapped was the starter belt!!!

Oh, it WAS a HIROBO Shuttle by the way and it was my first. I think i tried to run before i could walk, but saying that i thought i was doing okay really until that glitch happened.

Any suggestions about wether to trying to fix this one or moving on? Bear in mind that it cost me just over £100 including radio gear...

    Hi
Sounds like the Gyro gain was wrong or gyro sensing the wrong way maybe? Tranny was set to the right model?

    As for a helicopter...

From another post: Inwoods are doing the Shuttle for £139

So thats the newest version of a shuttle all your electronics would or should go in it.

crash = 100 pounds for 39 get a newer model...

Raptor/Sceadu are 2 more Helicopters worth considering and Raptors are the most common machine about.

All I will say is once you have choosen your helicopter and its built take it to a Club and get it checked over.

carver, helis are dangerous machines, not toys, please take it to the local flying club and get some help.

your issue is definitly gyro setup related. it is worth repairing either way.

worst case you sell it on to atleast part fund a newer model.

You should check out the parts manuals on midlandhelicopters website: http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/ac...ansShuttle.htm

You will hopefully be able to identify each part from those diagrams.
        I hope that helps.

          Hi Carver

Sorry to hear of your crash but please don't attempt to fly in your back garden if your starting out unless its the size of a farm

The damage these things will do to your soft parts is not worth thinking about. Imagine a blade coming off in a small back garden, the damage is unthinkable. I also don't think you would be covered by the BMFA for any third party damage.

Apologies if I have misunderstood and you wern't in your garden.

Anyway, here is the link to the new Shuttle for £139.99

          http://www.inwoodmodels.co.uk/system/index.html

Its the fourth down in the Hirobo section. Bargin I think.

Take Ade's advice and find a club.

          Best of luck.

          Cheers

Yeah sorry that's my fault. It was a lawn but not MY lawn up the back garden. I live in the sticks and have a lovely quiet (i.e.: nobody, and i mean nobody else goes there - i wouldn't fly there if there were other people there) piece of land. It's semi private. As long as the public don't abuse it and stuff like that people can use it without problems.
I like the idea of getting a whole new kit instead of trying to repair what i have now. I can break it down and sell it for spares and repairs.
Anyone know if any of the old parts are good for the shuttle plus?

              Hi Carver

Yes, most of your Shuttle can be used on the new one as spares except that the new one has a top start rather than the belt. You may not have much left after the crash!!!

You'll find the tail has been vastly improved and the blade holders significantly beefed up. The stock blades are better as well.

Hope you don't think I was lecturing you about safety. Wasn't my intention just want more people to enjoy the hobby rather then spending time in hospital.

The Shuttle is a good, cheap learning machine although a little dated now.

              Makes a great scale project.

              Cheers

Oh is that one of those posh hex start thingies? I'm guessing you attach something to your starter motor instead of gripping that stupid belt..! Sounds better and less risky than the belt anyway. Cheers for all the replies guys, much appreciated.

                  Hi

Yep the top start is an improvement on the belt.

The starter shaft is included with the kit.

                  Cheers
