The motor does appear to be a brushed one so I will look for a brushless (is this going to be an esky part or a universal hop up part?) and likewise with esc?

I had been looking at this ESKY Honey Bee King 2 MAIN ROTOR and TAIL UPGRADE KIT on eBay (end time 25-Jun-09 01:48:28 BST)
If I'm doing a rebuild then nows the time to get it, or Is this going to be poorly made or affect the way my helicopter flie (or not as it is now!)

I wouldnt bother with to much bling at this stage mate, just more expensive to fix

I take it you dont have the manual? If you did that would get you well on the way to setting up your model to something like right
To be honest I'd love to go out and get a new kit, but finances (and the wife!) wont allow it. I'm sure it can be rectified. I downloaded the manual, but I found it a little confusing to start with, things are a little clearer now having watched the youtube setup guides. Japanese never translates well to english!

That looks just the job. I can see where you are coming from on the bling, although that full set is cheaper than the same components made from plastic in uk model shops! Obviously if there is a major reason why they are cheaper than its definitely not worth getting.

            LOL that is true.
Don't fly your heli unless you have fixed all known issues. This is again one of those lessons many people learn the hard way. "But why, it flies". Yes. But not for long.

Just a final word in this thread.

I have been very active in the Heliguy forum for over a year now, and have found it to be a very friendly, helpful, and non antognistic environment where the total focus in the beginners area is on helping the newbie.

Yes, we have disagreements between each other, but they are simply offered as a another view, and I certainly can't remember being directly attacked for my view on anything, despite having posted over 1000 times, although we do of course have many very active discussions over some things.

Right now, I seem to be getting the impression that some people in this forum are perhaps trying to score points a lot of the time rather than focusing on the only important point of the exercise, which is simply to help new pilots ?

I have posted several things recently, and to my surprise have been almost lambasted for doing so.

Please tell me that I am wrong in feeling this.

Equally, if you really don 't want new contributors here, please just say so, and I will stay with Heliguy and other forums I am a member of, and where I know I, and my views, be they right or wrong, are still welcomed at their face value.

I really do hope I am wrong in this, but again it is simply my opinion, so I look forward to all your comments.

Hmm not sure if you are referring to me, it is not clear.
If so, I'm simply honest. If you ask me whether I agree to a consensus and I don't, I say "no". Simple as that, and it shouldn't hurt anybody's feelings.
BTW, here: Knowledge by consensus is Wikipedia's downfall | Opinion | The First Post is an interesting read about "consensus".

Of course, the purpose is to help beginners. One thing that I consider the most important is to help them make their helis fly as close as possible to one in the sim. Otherwise it's very difficult to get your sim skills applied to the real world.

Anyway, that only as an explanation, not to argue. As you indicated, the "last word" is yours :-)

Something interesting I tried this evening was to hold the helicopter from the underside and run it to full power to see if I copuld feel what was going on. With the elevator ( i think thats the term!) right up the helicopter had no feeling of lift and I could certainly still feel the weight of it in my hand, yet as I brought it back down I felt it push very hard down on my hand, to the point where I turned it upside down and it felt as if it would probably fly (certainly wasnt going to risk it!!)
Seriously as others have said don't hold heli or get near it with blades spinning. Do all adjustments with motor disconnected.
This is what happened to me today when I forgot to have throttle hold on, long story but you get the picture.
Also took the top off my index finger.

                      Hi.........

Well I did the exact same thing, do to lack of funds (at the time) I brought a second hand heli and not knowing anything about them I could not see what was wrong with my first ever heli.I like you soon found out out that my pride and joy was not so much joy anymore. But there is a plus side here, you will become a great heli mechanic before you become a pilot and as all good pilots know crashes WILL happern and knowing how to fix and replace is just as important as being a saftey aware pilot.

So welcome to this hobby you have HBK heil well done for making the first step. (This a great heli) I brought a HB fixed pitch heli (not as good as a HBK but good in its own right) in the last five months and today was my first ever flight on Blade 400 out side, so take things slowly as advised and get a sim and practice.

I did not listen to our felly members advice and rather than buy a sim and cx2 brought the HBFP heli (Due to lack of funds) what a mistake I made I can see that now with what I know.

Those who advised me in the early days I am bent over waiting for the cain across my rear
