  • What Gasser?

I’ve decided to buy a gasser Heli and so far I’ve narrowed in down to A Carbon predator or an X-Cell spectra G what would be your choice?

  • #2
I would think the Century gasser would be the more common. I've been working on a Robbe Cautro gasser conversion and its been a project that's taken far longer than expected due to other things.

I would suggest the Zenoha 23 engine over the 26, I've heard a few people having vibration issues on the 26.
    Cheers

      Hi Stuart

I've heard about the vibration problems, what does this mean, Hanson Modified Engine, has the engine been balanced to help with the said problems?

        Fixer:

Predator Gasser is probably one of the best out there. vibration on the 26 is more down to the build than anything esle. Getting the Fan on with .002 tollerence is the hard bit.

Although the 23cc is meant to be smoother I have the 26cc version its a nice machine and flys well handles wind and has more power than you can shake a stick at.

Any Predator you get you must get the Metal 'A' Arm upgrade. This is the one bad part of the kit the plastic one is weak and will break under the strain. I have to say other than that its a good kit.

there is something to watch for with the current crop of gassers.

the zenoah engines are heavy and vibey in stock form, the Hanson modded engines do seem to run a lot better. but they are still damn heavy

noise, if your site is noise sensitive (there arent many that arent). Some exhausts are better than others. best to do some reasearch on this.

              ah

The Century Tuned pipe for the Gasser drops the db level quiet well and gives the engine more power.

As for the Heli weight Ade is right they are not light machines and although they can 3D some moves they struggle with. Although the sheer power is amazing to be honest.

Any Predator Gasser kit comes with the Hanson Modified engines as standerd.

I don’t think it sold, I've seen the same one advertised somewhere else for £600

The noise isn’t a problem neither is the weight factor at the moment, I’m buying a gasser purely for the cheap running costs, I like the look of the X-cell but I would imagine the Predator will be easier to get parts for, how do I make sure the engine is a Hanson Modified and not just a normal Zenoah

Fixer: All Century Predator Kits come with the Hanson Modifed Engines in the kits. They don't do a Non-Modified engine version of the kit.

Cheers, but I was thinking if I bought second hand I would like to know what to look for, as the engine could have been replaced.

Hum.. Ask if the engine has ever been replaced but I don't know if the plane version is a Hanson moded one...

As long as the engine is still in it then fine, Remove the Plug you want to see a brown tanish colour Not Black or White.

I've now diverted a bit and I'm looking at the Benzine Acrobatic with the Zenoah 26.

Ade - If you think the gasser is heavy, you want to try the turbine version, now that really is one huge lump

The predator is a very nice smooth model to fly, but I will say it is not the most intuative of models to build as the manual covers about 4 different versions of the same model. The other thing is some of the parts are expensive for it, take the main gear for example, a raptor 90 one will cost you £7.99, whereas a predator one is £22.99. There are a few other parts on it which are equally expensive.

One of the most successful changes I have made to the turbine is to use the new futaba 9550 slimline servos on the ccpm, these fit nicely behind the frames, which means the push pull controls are all both more linear and smoother, not to mention the ends of the ball links dont catch on the corners of the servo cases like they did using the stock setup.

                            Cheers,
                            Pete.

Just make sure spares are ready available but I don't know the Benzine Gasser at all.

Make sure theres a UK dealer with spares!
