Thanks to all replies. I'll update this thread once I find out what happened exactly just so others know.

Ade - I have a fairly hectic few weeks coming up but I would like to take you up on your offer so I'll be in touch. Thanks.

I've just taken a look at my 'new' controller and noticed of all the servo reverse switches, the only one set to reverse is....yeah you guessed it....the throttle!!! So I'll take a look at the carb later and make sure it's now fully closed (clockwise) instead of fully open. Eek! Lucky nothing more serious happened.

This may be correct, depends on the linkage set up..

Remember clockwise is closed and youll be OK

The brass moving part of the carb winds IN when closing yeah?

I can't see whether the carb is opened or closed as it's right up inside the main body.

use the method i suggested, it will sound very different at full throttle. if you dont put the glow clip on the plug it wont start

              Hi

On the Shuttle, the servo should move the throttle linkage to the right to reduce throttle and to the left to increase it. (As you look from the exhaust side).

Its the opposite to the pitch servo directly mounted above. This moves to the right to increase pitch and to the left to reduce pitch.

These two are very important and need a good check by a competent flyer.

              Cheers

                Just started up the heli

Took a bit of fiddling but it turned out I wasn't putting enough amps to the glow plug. Once I cranked it up a bit the heli kicked into life.
Idled very nicely, but now I have a NEW problem. The starter belt snapped so now i need a new one. It looks slightly perished.
There aren't any markings on the belt. Does it matter which one you get?
                Anyone order bits online?
Could you post the URL please?

                Thanks.

                  Phone Skyline models

you want the starter belt for the hirobo shuttle.

later shuttles have a hex start. Might be worth finding out how much needs to be changed to convert it.

Skyline suggested buying a hoover belt as they very rarely see the proper belts.
Have I bought a model that's so old I won't be able to get any parts if and when I crash?

Dont worry, the Shuttle is fundamentally the same,a hoover belt will work fine..

There may be some differences with the tail gearbox assy and some head bits but newer shuttle bits can be substituted in many cases,,,

                        Another dumb question but....

I bought a belt (same manufacturer as the belt that snapped) from a power tool store. They have all sorts of belts in there. £2.75

Now, how do i fit it lol. From looking at it from the exhaust side it looks like I have to drop the engine out. Then drop the clutch down and loop the new belt over. Is this right?

                          2 bolts exhaust off,
4 bolts drop engine down, clutch comes out of the clutch bell,
pop belt over the top of the clutch

                          refit..

                          bob is now your uncle.

The previous owner has rounded off the screws that hold the exhaust on.
I noticed a modded piece of bodywork underneath the exhaust so i unscrewed it and managed to slide the engine, with exhaust connected, out of the bottom and was then able to loop my new starter belt over the clutch. All back together now so i'll try my luck again this evening.

                              Hi

Spares for the Shuttle are as common as chips??

                              See both Skyline and Midland.

You can 'Bling' it up as well by fitting Quick spares.

                              Cheers

its worth sorting the exhaust now. rather than being in the position of needing to get the exhaust off down the field and not being able to.

you could carefully drill the heads off the bolts but be very careful... very careful...

                                very very careful

not to distribute shards of metal around the model.

dont be tempted by QUK for shuttle stuff its simply not worth it.
