  • HB CP2 max stability

    Hi all,
After a first flight and first crash "out of the box" with my first CP model I decided to research the best set-up for maximum learner stability for the HB CP2. This has raised a few of questions that the more experienced members may be able to comment on:
    1. The pitch control - the following link is to an intersting mod where the rotor head is inverted. I have carried this out and blade tracking is much easier to set up and more stable. It seems to make sense. Any comments? http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=611437
    2. Rear rotor - this is supposed to spin up evenly with throttle. On the bench, mine is "half hearted, sort of increases in stages (from about half throttle) but given some right rudder it spins up fine. Is this the norm or should I adjust the gain?
    3. Is there any advantage to giving the flybar paddles some up pitch to improve stability, if so, how much? I've heard that it works on other models at the expense of manouverability (but that would be the point for me!).
    Look forward to any feedback.
    Thanks,
    Herbie

      Thanks for the support Mike.
Hampton Court should be a good flying site - I used to pass it frequently when I had to work out our Feltham site for a while.
I've set the CP2 up as best as I can as a novice and just had to try it out tonight as it was dead calm in the garden. Not too bad - four short and untidy hovers but without damage! A nerve racking experience but very satisfying.
Tail wandered a lot so I think there may be a problem with the rear motor as per the first post (or I'm just rubbish at present).
I'm going to make a turntable to try and check out the tail rotor "on the ground".
Impressed with how accurate the HeliSimRc simulator is compared to the real deal for a freebie.
      Happy flying.

I also got one of these around xmas and only recently had time to try it out and as I could hover my walkera 4-3b now, I figured I might stand a better chance. But of my god what a pig, first flight I smashed the blades and broke the ball off one of the seesaw arms, got that sorted and tried again and the darn thing would shoot up or crash back down, so stripped down the head and noticed as I seen around the net that the washers were assembled wrong on the feather bar and grips, so sorted that out carefully oiled and tried again and was much smoother, but what a pig to keep the tail straight , set it up to hold as per posts I have seen and it would still swing all over the place, and for a newbie that was quite a challenge I can tell you ;-) Tried again and it would just want to spin left all the time and the tail motor def was slowing down, so stripped it down and see the postive brush side was totally worn out after only 5 flights, the gears were not binding etc either. So on the spur I ordered a metal head from China from fleabay which I have now and also ordered from buzzflyer the dual tail motor mount with 2 new motors and the upgraded skids set. Now need to fit this and see if this is easier for me to fly ;-) As I said on another thread about my walkera 4-3b, I will never bother with any more brushed motors and brushed tail motor heli's. I think use a sim and then get a real heli with brushless to learn on and not have the hassle of upgrades and replacing motors when you are just starting out and trying to focus on flying these.
