This is a good idea, the local club should be able to advise on what heli to buy and help you to learn faster

www.sheffieldheliclub.com fly on the east side towards Rotherham somewhere.
With the heli you might be better to go to a heli specialised club.
sometimes the fixed wing and heli fliers don't get on so well - sometimes they do.
There are a few members on here from Sheffield. Dunno if you can search the list on location though...

Thanks Brin I hope to save-up for the Phoenix sim and spend lots of time on that to get use to the controls. I can't wait till I can hover my blade 400 but I'll be scared to try the flips even after months of practice on the sim lol.

Just to add my 2p worth, I dont think a simulator is totally essential if And its a big IF you can get into a club and have an instructor teach you how to fly!
I learnt without one and whilst it may take you longer to learn it is still possible to do so. (just thinking about those on tight budgets cos lets face it purchasing a complete heli setup is not cheap especially if you are young)!

Oh and welcome to the forum Sk8ergrl.

Thanks Funfreex and how long have you been flying by the way? Was you nervous taking out your helicopter for the first time?. I am on a tight budget as my helicopter that I'm purchasing is a lot and has taken me ages to save-up. I'm 27 as well lol. x

Have been flying 18months or so and now starting to feel more comfortable doing aerobatics at lower altitudes. 450 size helis get real small real quick if you let em.

I remember absolutely kacking myself the first time I flew the heli without my trusty sidekick (instructor) around, but just went for it and afterwards my hands were shaking for a good ten minutes!

I have now got that down to 2 mins.

Jayme, welcome to the forum, and to the unofficial Blade 400 Owners club. The heli you have now is a 2 channel very easy to fly model. You WILL struggle with the B400, please can I suggest one of 2 things, either an instructor on a buddy lead, until you really have mastered the hover, or a coaxial such as the Blade MCX, which may seem small and a toy, but is still 4 channel so can go sideways, up/down, forwards/backwards and spin.

The Blade is a lovely heli to fly when you have mastered her. But it takes time. I've been flying my own since last August, and now can do silly stuff with it like loops/rolls/flips. But, and I'm being totally honest here, I just now had it in my back garden (trying a camera that's a little big for her) and still had the shakes afterwards, that's now. And I am used to her. You will crash, we all do. And I'm sorry to say if you try and fly that Blade without help, the training gear won't save her. She'll lift off, come straight at you, and you will either panic and bury her into the ground, or suffer serious injury. Sorry if that sounds blunt, but it's the truth, and I'd hate to see a newcomer either broken-hearted over their precious heli, or in hospital messed up.

Take care and have fun. And above all, stay safe.

Thanks for the warm welcome and great advice. I've already bought the Eflite Blade 400 3d kit. I'm going to buy phoenix flight sim and spend a lot of time on that and I will make sure I'm 100% satisfied that I can control the sim heli with no problems even when its windy conditions on the sim. Then I'll find a club to join and get some lessons with an A certificate BMFA qualified instructor. I really appriciate all of your advice & I will make sure that I won't just fly the blade 400 without supervision for my piece of mind and my health. I'm also a fast learner so that will help me on the sim lol

                                Hugs, Jayme x
