  • Hi and Thanks

After my post about my Wallpaper/Walkera incident I thought I'd better say hello properly now that I've survived the week and look as if I might get away with it.

My name is Pete and I'm a HeliAddict, Have been since the 70s when I first flew in the back seat of an Army Scout on Salisbury Palin while the pilot demonstrated Nap Of the Earth manouvers. Since then I've had the good fortune to fly in a whole range of military helis of all three services along with some civilian ones. I applied for AAC pilot training but didnt pass, we shant go into that one, was gutted.

Since leaving the forces (to work in I.C.T.) I've had some PPL training on planks and even had two lessons in a R44 for a special birthday present from my family, bless em. I cant really afford the PPL route and was disappointedly giving the whole thing up as a pipe dream when I stumbled across modern RC helicopters while on the Hovercontrol Flight Sim site, (which is also great). Since then I've been avidly reading everything I can lay my hands on or find on the net. For me this site stood out from the others, as the amount of information freely and happily provided to even the newbiest of beginners was amazing. The generosity of some members is an example of what is best about internet communities.

Anyway, I dropped some hints before Christmas and was stoked to receive a Walkera 4#3Q, an IR 2 Channel heli and some funds towards something bigger. So for me the story starts here and I'm very happy to have found and joined this site and hope to be able to participate usefully along with sponging up all the info I can.

    Pete

Welcome aboard Pete. I too am a newbie and have found this place to be great for advice, input and good old friendly banter.

You can also get some deals on used stuff too.

      Welcome Pete,
Lets hope this hobby won't cost quite as much as getting your PPL but don't hold your breath!
Really glad to have you aboard and I feel positive that you will progress quickly and move on to larger and better helis.
      Adrian.

          Welcome to the forum Pete.
Glad you survived your little mishap. You'll soon be getting something abit bigger and trimming all your flowers. The wallpaper was just a dry run

            Welcome!!

Remember, the bigger the Heli, the more surface area of wallpaper you can destroy

            Cheers

Welcome Pete, Also remember the bigger the heli the easier it is to fly too.

Start with the smaller 450 size helis and they are frisky little things to handle to don't get too dissapointed if you find you spending lots of time crashing.

On a sim its free to crash, With the model its quite a different story.

Stick with it mate, Its a great hobby with a long learning curve.

                Thanks for the welcome guys.

I'm currently drooling over various online shop's sites while deciding whether to go for a B400 or buy a DX7 and T3DS. The Blade I could get now, but the DX7 T3DS option would mean splitting it over a couple of months as I intend to upgrade my sim to Phoenix next week also. Hmmm.... Decisions, Decisions.

Think I'll have to go see what can be sold on the bay.

Blade 400 worked for me but the 3DS/DX7 route is better if you want to go to Nitros later as you need the 7th channel for a governor...
