    Hi all,

Like so many here it seems my good lady bought me a 2 ch indoor heli for Xmas and it's got me looking into the hobby abit more. I have a friend who flys and I used to race 1/10 cars erm... a few.. years ago so have been involed in RC before.

I've been reading some of the newbie posts in the beginners section and there's been some really good advice given. I was originally looking at a Blade CX2 or a Ripmax Minicopter, which I was recommended by a flyer on another (car) forum. I had looked at the Blade mCX but thought is was a bit on the small side but reading the threads and knowing I have not got a huge amount of space indoors I am thinking the mCX is probably a good place to start as the CX2 might be a bit big.

Will getting proficient on the mCX be enough to see me upgrade successfully to something like a Blade 400 or similar? Are all the controls the same as I noticed the mCX does not have a tail rotor.

I've already bought an FMS sim so, although not the best, I'm sure it will give me an idea of what the basic controls do and if it saves we one crash then it's paid for itself.

Anyway enough waffle, forum looks great and nice and busy too. Nothing worse than waiting 3 days for an answer.

Oh last thing, is there a thread or another place where I can find out about local clubs. I live in Berkshire and wouldn't mind meeting up with a few ilke minded folk who can offer advice on not crashing

    cheers

Heya and Welcome to the nuthouse ... As for going to a CP heli from the CX series they are harder and do take alot more setting up ... But thats half the fun of the hobby ... Yeh the controls are basically the same apart from you control the throttle/pitch with that stick and you use the rudder ...

      Clubs .. try here ...http://www.bmfa.org/clubs/clist.php

Never have to wailt long for answers here

As for FMS .. TBH its ok for learning the stick inputs .. but it will not do much more .. invest in phoenix flight sim ...

I've been flying on one of those little polystyrene jobs for a while but recently bought a little mCX to fly about indoors. Before I bought it I was initially sceptical about it, being that it is so small.

However, deciding that the people on here know what they are talking about, I went ahead and bought one and boy I am glad I did.

I've lost count of the number of times I have stacked it, but the little thing just keeps bouncing back with no injuries. A great introduction to 'proper' helicopter flying compared to the thing I used to fly.

it is my intention to move up to something better in a few months, probably a Blade 400 as recommended by those on here too.

I don't think you can go wrong with a little mCX if you are just flying it round your house. Perfect that and then move on matey, is my advice.

For a list of clubs, try the British Model Flyers Association on the link below. They have a club list.

        Hope it helps some.

Hi Martyn, and welcome to the forum. I know the mCX is small but don't let that fool you, as it flys very well and is great fun. Although it is a coaxial heli and does behave differently to CP heli's it will still teach you the basics of how to control one.

You are right about the tail rotor, as it simply slows one set of blades down to make the turn, but it still works pretty well.

If you take a look at some peoples signatures on the forum you will notice that even flyers with large electric and nitro heli's have an mCX, I think that says it all
