  • Story so far ....

    Hi All,

have got some time off of work (cateract removal) so I thought I would bore you with my heli career so far.

Started off with a Twister V2 FP from the lhs. What a disaster! Never really got it to fly & gradually trashed the dining room with it.

Saw sense, re-boxed the Twister & took the advise on this forum. Bought a Blade CX2, Phoenix Sim & Spectrum DX6i.

Graduated to a Walkera 4#3B (will I ever learn?) Lovely little heli, but very tempermental & definately not for a noob like me. Managed to accidently stand on this one & completely wreck it (damn these crappy eyes).
Back to messing about with the Blade & Phoenix.

A few weeks ago, a Gaui SE100 Pro came up on a well known auction site (new & unused) I couldn't resist.
    £51 later & its mine
I bought one of those magnifying/light stand jobbies from maplins & that helped no end during the build.
Fiddly as hell to build but i really enjoyed it. HS45B's on cyclic, Logitec 2100 gyro with Futaba S3154 on tail.
The training gear is from the Twister & cut in half.

Its taken me a few weeks to get the parts together & build it.
Setting it all up was a massive learning curve in itself.
Maidened it this morning with batteries from the CX2.....

'IT FLIES'....I can't believe it, it actually FLIES

Have put 4 batteries through it so far & can hover for 5-10 secs at a time before my lack of skill takes over. It seems pretty stable, though I suspect that the set-up could do with some 'tweaking'.

I know that this is probably 'small beans' to a lot of you guys, but I am so chuffed that I managed to build & set-up this heli (walking round grinning like a t#*t waiting for the batteries to charge) just had to share.

Thanks for reading (Trex 250 next lol).

    Paul.

Well done and glad you enjoy the flying.

I totally disagree with your "small Beans" comment, these early stages are some of the most stressful learning curves for any newbie and takes a great effort.

Your machine looks well cool, you've still boat loads to learn but thats all the fun of this hobby, discovering something that makes your flying more efficient & exciting.

Enjoy your SE100, learn your tail in hovering before anything, so you can lift her up without even thinking about it, then gentle nose left, right and start too feel comfy with her in different orientations, but take it slow and don't rush.

But it sounds like you have it all in order, talking of orders you wanna think about a 450 or 500 sized machine next, there's no rule saying you have to by a large machine, but a 450 class will offer many choices, plus will cope with winder days then the SE100.

Congrats (and don't forget getting in a few spares.)

Well done! - I remember when I bought my second model the hirobo shuttle plus.

Having previously had the hummer I hadnt had to build that and the chap in the 'very old school' model shop said something along the lines of 'son the only way you will ever master these things is to build one yourself'

And to be fair, i think he had a point! - none of us want to wait for anything these days but a good build is VERY satisfying and you really get to know the model!

I really enjoy the building, I can find more time to do this than the 1/2 day minimum to get out to the field... got to give my old Rappy a service as its not been out this year, must do something about that before 2009 rolls in.

Good to hear you are enjoying the hobby - it is a step into the dark but a fun one.
