  • Fragile servos

    Hi all,

Being a newbie I don't know that much about all the bits that make a great heli. What I have found out is the the servos I use, as a beginner who just wants to fly, are very fragile. These are aligns own and nano-s.

Already with little effort I have broke four and that's without flying!!!

Does anyone know if there is metal gear servos available for my trex that have one screw hole on each side and are light enough? I'm starting to realise that buying cheap parts can and will end up costing more if you include replacements.

It hasn't stopped raining since xmas so still no flights . Anyone know of indoor events near Gateshead or heli clubs?

    Cheers all

How have you broken the servos?

I've not come across any that are that fragile!!! I've used most of the usual smaller ones over the past 2 years or so and forced they will all break. I've broken tons in the same period but I'm sure all of those have been during an awkward arrival rather than on the ground ops:

in my T-Rexes I use HS56's, HS55's, SuperTec HP +F's currently HS56's are the preference but they have a habit of going out of stock quite a lot, about 15 I think.

There are also HS65's now, same as 56's but slightly slower but more torque, I've not seen or used these though.

Thanks for that smoothound. Mine have broke by the blades knocking close by furniture (not been out yet :-( ) and also when they cut into my leg (see other post). When I've moved them gently they have clicked off a tooth or two.
I am absolutely bursting at the seams to get out but the rain has come. It never rained on the run up to christmas

Just looked at the heli club site and it looks very intimidating. Might give it a miss until I can do something other than break my copter. haha

ps smoothound: Have I made a reasonable good choice with my 450xl se for a first heli? I can hover it a little but need to get outside.

I think the T-Rex is good(I've got 2.5 of them) but it's not ideal for learning on in one respect and that is it is a lot more twitchy than a 30/50 nitro. A larger nitro is a lot more "planted" in the sky, more time to think about your stick inputs and once you progress it's easier to fly 2 or 3 mistakes high and still be able to see the bird

Having said that spares are cheap you can fly it in a reasonably small area, it won't annoy the neighbours doing test hovers etc in the garden(assuming it's reasonbly sized), no mess and once you've mastered that you can fly anything. It's a bit different if you learn on a nitro and then try a Trex or similar for the 1st time 8)

                      Fantastic...I will prevail! haha

One last thing...can the HS56's be used as a tail servo also?

Yes no worries. I'm using SuperTec HP +F's on both mine currently, I've used HS50's but not 56's but I know a lot of people do.

cool. I'll buy 5 of these tomorrow if they have metal gears as you use em on a 450xl.
So I'll blame you if they're no better!!! hahaha totally kidding. Thanks for the advice and totally appreciated.
