Just a follow up, in-case anyone else has what they think are clutch problems with a Kestrel. I finally got it running on Friday and as it was getting light on the skids, it span round anti clockwise and nearly fell over.
I got a call from Century on the Tuesday and the guy told me that some of the one way main gear bearings had been greased! That's what had been causing the on-off drive, all the time.
I cleaned out the grease with brake cleaner and took it out on Saturday, and it refused to start, and then the one way in the fan overheated and melted. It's back at the LHS being looked over by a heli expert. I can't wait to see what tricks it gets up to when it's airborne
