Trex 450 or 500 or 600

I have just about mastered tail-in hovering on the Trex 450SE V2 but I have already had one crash that caused significant damage to the head/shaft. I really enjoy the engineering but the down time versus flying time is frustrating. Add in the variable UK weather and I am wondering whether to sell the 450 and purchase a 500 or 600 so that the heli will be less of a handful to learn on and I can fly if it is breezy . I am not intending to get into IC power or 3D, preferring scale and sedate flying for now! Thoughts please.

Buy a T-Rex 600e mate, Have a word with Dougie from these forums, He has had the same dilemma and can now hover his 600e every flight where as he crashed his 450SE most times out.

Ive got a 450 and a 500, the 500 is alot better at handling the wind, ive flown it fairly windy conditions without a problem, infact I will probably be doing just that tonight.

the downtime on any heli you crash is the same be it a 450 or a 600 the main difference is in the cost a 600 will cost significantly more to repair than a 450 will.

Personnally I would love to have a 600E one of the guys at the field flys one each weekend and it look like its got some awsome power, ive not had a play with it as yet so cant comment. but if you spill it the cost is gonna hurt. plus for me the battery costs are fairly prohibitive

You will be very surprised at how "LOW" most of the parts are for the 600e Tony, Yes the lipos are price but even they are dropping too..

I was thinking of blades and batteries at the time, don't get me wrong if I had the chance of a 600E at the right price I would have one.

Still not decided which way to go. Running costs (LiPo's) and space to fly are major consideration.

Ive got the 450 and 600e. If you can fly the 450 then the 600 is a walk in park. Its almost totally unaffected by wind.

I'd stick with the 450 till you can do nose in side in and some circuits figure 8's etc.

I hate to do this but I dis-agree.

Larger model easier to learn on, easier to hover easier to fly around

If cost is the major factor the 500 is a good machine and li-po cost won't kill you at 70 pounds a battery thats almost 2 for 1 vs the T-rex 600e batteries.

If price of a 600 puts you off the 500 is a good machine that will fly in 20mph wind's as well.

600 or 500 both very good machines to learn on IMO and easier than a 450 to fly and learn on

I agree wit Disc. What I was trying to say was its harder on the 450 especially in a breeze so if he can master the 450 then the 500/600 are much easier.

I keep thinking everyone's able to fly indoors with their 450. I guess if you can only fly outdoors then for sure the bigger the better! Luckily i have a sports hall to fly in so can stick to the small ones for now

one of the other things that makes a 500 attractive in my opinion is that if you get the correvt battery, pinion, headspeed combination 10-11 mins per flight wouldnt be out the question. at least thats what the figures stacked up to when I was cycling my batteries on the 500 for the first few times.

If I had the space to fly it and the money to buy it I'd consider a 600, ah well, maybe tonight when we win the Euro Millions eh!?!

Thanks everyone, I think that the 500 is going to get the vote. I do have indoor flying - sometimes, the garden is probably large enough (tennis court size) for starters and the club has access to airfield flying. The 600 is just too expensive on LiPo's for now.
