  • Hints, Tips, General Usefulness For a Newbie Here Please!!

Ok I've had a read of various posts and slowly picking up things as I go along. I've ordered my first Heli (Can't wait for it to come) so I'm looking for learning hints and tips! I've gone for a Esky Belt CP after reading several reviews (last one been Rotorworld) recomending it as a good starter Heli. As I said I'm a complete beginer when it comes to Heli's had plenty of R/C cars leave the ground but never for a period longer than a few seconds!! lol Also what in the way of tools and bits and pieces should I be looking to get?

makes sure you get yourself some training undercarige legs for it! thats probably the best adivce i can give

also if you havn't got a sim already, have a look at phoenix sim. yes its queit expensive but it is a VERY worth while investment and will save you a bucket in the long run!

    good luck
    cheers,
    Tom

Well luckily training undercariage are included with the Heli! Spare set of blades and a usb cable to connect my Tx to the PC. I'll get Pheonix when I've got some more pennys!lol In the meantime I'll give the Esky sim a whirl to get me going!

        Hi Richie

I'll keep it short, I'll tell you now the first time you take that belt CP out spool her up and lift off your going to total it, or worse your end up hurting someone else or yourself.

The learning needed to take her up takes loads of Sim practice even then it doesn't completely prepare you for CCP flight.

Buy Phoenix and study flying, if this is the route your going to take, if not just make sure no ones around you when you take that first flight of death for that new heli coming our way mate.

Hey if you total it in five seconds doesn't concern me in the slightest, you wanted advise, so I was honest. Your taking a very expensive route and one that'll possibly put you off.

Go ahead, but don't say we didn't tell you first!

Well my Heli arrived!! Had a go in the garden with the training gear on! Managed to hold her in a short hover between slowly hopping her around the lawn!! lol Enjoyed my first go looking forward to practising some more! Taking it to a local model shop for a set up as I think it may need the gyro servo linkages adjusting. Would have a crack but I don't know enough about it's inner workings yet so i'll well alone!! lol Anyhow saving like mad for pheonix! Any folk on from around my way? (Yorkish!) Be nice to have some local to swap tips and tails of woe! lol

It's good you had a little hover but do make sure it stays just that until you iron out some Sim time on Phoenix.

I was being a little hard on you before as it happens all the time when the urge to see her hovering ends up costing dearly, so when Phoenix arrives cram in the practice bud', it'll save you so many repairs later on for sure.

                      Best of luck.

Cheers lads! I can see why people get to carried away though! I was grinning like a kid at xmas when I had her hovering!! When I get her back I'll bob down the field as I was running out of "hopping" space! Pheonix looks excellent so I guess something will be going on ebay to pay for it! lol

alright rich, i'm new to the heli flying myself (4weeks), and went you're way and started flying before i got a sim, and yup i managed the few hops and a bit of a hover, before i ditched it, but seriousley speaking i wish i had listened to the advice from here, just a few hours on the sim has saved me loads, i went for the blade400 as my first heli, and i'm well happy with it, now i'm looking at getting a rappy 50 to build from scratch, just to get the experience in knowing how a heli is put together and how the setup works, another top tip is join a club, its a total library of information with people chomping at the bit to help and advise you.

Cheers Matty! What are they like to upgrade/repair? Easy or rather fiddly? I know at some point I'll end doing both!lol
Alright Cyrus! I'll be getting a sim as soon as me cash allows it! Sadly the Esky version doesn't work with Vista 64 without serious patching! Leaves me with pheonix which is deffinatly the best but it's gonna cost me £80.00! (Need an adapter for my radio) So for the moment I'll be doing lots of hopping! lol Just left me Belt CP at the model shop for a set up! Back tuesday!!
