I know mate and I really want to stick with it, as I know a little further down the line it becomes real fun, but right now it's a bitch to master.

          And fix.

I can't imagine what it must have been like in the Eighties and early Nineties when the net wasn't about for this type of thing.

It must have been a right nightmare!

            It was.

That's partly why I gave up in 2000.

Trust me, that was one of my biggest mistakes.

Don't give up. It does get easier and once you've changed a F/Shaft once, you will be prepared for the next time.

I had some tuition with Pip and I semi changed a feathering shaft, I remember some bearings being a pain to remove, so when I disassemble I'll put all the parts in line on a tray so I know what order they go back in.

I've got the Align hex set plus the screwdriver which changes into another 1.5mm hex, so I'll have two decent hex's for removal and install, plus all the pliers you need for basic work on the heli.

bloody hell wayne i go and clean me shed and this happens! stay with it mate, it can be frustrating and crashes really do drain you till you get to roll with em!

from a quick glance at your settings i think you may be trying a little to hard to dumb down the controls.
with 80% d/r and 30% expo i think 45% swash mixes are to low and your throttle curve is low giving you a low head speed. the result of all this will make it far too slugish and is probably why you couldn't fight the wind!

                  Wayne.

Part of this hobby is taking the knocks mate..

Last Sunday I had a brain fart and put my T-Rex 500 into the dirt inverted and did the usual damage..Blades/Main shaft/Feathering Shaft and some other odds and sods.

On Sunday Last (Yesterday) I was really enjoying myself slinging the 600e around the skies when the grub screw came loose from the pinion attached to the motor...

Yes I was too slow hitting the hold switch too busy trying to recover it that yes my beloved 600 hit the deck too..

Re-building these things is just a part of the hobby for me and along the way you learn something different everytime... Believe me the model fly's better after every crash trust me..

Then you can go 3 maybe 6 month without any damage what so ever..

Enjoy it mate. Thats what its all about, Enjoy the good times and learn to take the knocks..

                    • Sorry I haven't been able to reply until now, but I've been a bit laied up all afternoon.

This morning I received a message from Pip and he came over for a couple of hours and helped me while I performed the work on the 450 and replaced the broken parts, I had a bet Boom also, so taking that off and understanding how all that works is now understood.

Another thing not to be scared of to do myself.

The Feathering shaft was well....well shafted, so I replaced that while Mike watched, and pointed out a few things so I didn't make the same small mistakes when I perform the task another time.

Great I feel well confident to do that another time, Plus replacing the main shaft and head parts.

Then we came to the TX he helpfully explained how to do all the changes with the sticks and everything, plus as he spoke them out I have a written reference to all the setting to enter again if for some reason they got lost again.

But thankfully the DX6 is no longer the box of mystery it once was, I'd mastered what quite a few of the controls meant, but after today I feel like I've made a massive step forward in understanding the flight controls, how they work and the difference certain changes can make.

It was an enjoyable morning, good to see a friend, talk helicopters and learn loads.

Cheers mate, and thank you all, as bit by bit since I started this thread I've learned loads, and now a few things have been explained one to one, all the other info here has fallen into place nicely.

I just want to say a massive thanks to the forum, I've had my weekend from hell, and come out the other side a different person with what I now understand.

                      Bravo everyone

                            Busterboy,

Absolutely spot on, I couldn't say it better myself!

Wayne, Yes flying heli's will lead to accidents or crashes and part of the hobby is fixing them and setting them up. In a few months time you will wonder what all the fuss was about!

I've learnt my skills over 3 years, you are on the steep end of the learning curve, but you will learn more and more with each step!

Keep at it the rewards are well worth it but remember to take a breath every now and again and don't rush it!

                            • Cheers mate, Indeed I agree!

21 flights so far, one small crash due to stupidity, trying to sort out throttle curves in a force 10 gale, lol.

And one mid air drop due to my TX Aeriel wire not connected to the RC Board, (not my fault).

So in the law of averages it's well in favor of the fun factor, plus learning more yesterday with on hand help helped explain many things I was afraid of taking apart, now I'd go straight in slowly of course but with more confidence then before.

Plus the mystery's of the TX have been laid to rest, I've been reading up on the manual since yesterday and it really isn't that difficult once someone has been with you made changes and you've watched them describe the input by moving the part on the heli with a "before" the change and "now look at the difference" after the new setting has been made.

I've all the setting saved now so should my TX loose its settings I can reprogram her from the list, but as Mike said it'll all be second nature eventually.

I've been thinking as well about how the data was lost, the only thing I done different when Clare wanted a go on phoenix, was while changing the model number the Phoenix lead was still attached, I don't know if this could do it, or if it was an unluckily fluke, but in the interests of my sanity I won't be doing that again for sure.

                              • OK had a little flight today, after 30 seconds I decided it was too windy, so luckily my back garden was quite sheltered, so I adjusted the sub trims a little and now she flys great, I powered through one batt and called it a day.

Funny thing is I was really nervous, not like before, it was like it was my first time flying.

I think the last few days has seriously dented my confidence, hence why all out door flying is off until I have claim conditions.

I'm playing it well safe until I'm comfortable again with her in a little wind.

So I've put her rota tidy back on, she sits on the table, and my little BCX2 is gonna have a bomb around the house today.
