I don't think it's not acceptable. It's just not learning much so I don't think it's worth doing. Not trying to be harsh just think the OP may be taking bad advice.

Echoing what Mole hunter said… it is the risk of tripping that is the problem. I don't find walking about after helicopters acceptable and i would definitely have a quiet word with anyone that got into the habit of doing it at our club. From a safety point of view. Walking about after micros is probably not as dangerous obviously. But still not something that should be done in my opinion.

I don't understand the benefit of walking behind your heli. I don't see what you learn from that. Not knocking your achievement but wherever you got that from is just probably worth ignoring imo.

It has worked for me with srx, by the way I don't do it now with srx, it is stepping stone, not a habit or a trip hazard, what would be your approach.

I would never consider moving myself around with the heli worth while. You're not learning anything you aren't learning hovering tail in. To learn properly you need to get used to controlling the stocks correctly with the heli in the various orientations. There are many ways of doing this, and I'm on my phone so im not going to try and post how I went about it, but walking behind your heli doesn't teach you them.

Exactly what i did when i first learnt to hover so that i could also get used to cyclic and rudder movements in the safe position of tail in.

Far more likely to hurt yourself or someone else trying the orientations before your able.

Appropriate space and ofc no one to hit and it is perfectly safe and 'acceptable'!

Ignore the fun police who are trying to sh!t on your parade and enjoy the hobby!

No one is trying to sh!t on anyones parade. I just don't find it "acceptable" practice and think it should be avoided. Why would i give Honwai a free DX8 and then try to shit on his parade? I have been very supportive of him and I'm just pointing out that imo you shouldn't be walking about after your heli… Go ahead though if your having fun. Circuits came so naturally to me i just can't imagine why anyone would need to follow the heli to achieve them. It seems silly…. but learning with a quad seems silly to me also but many people seem to do it.

You are not allowed to walk behind your heli to keep to tail in lol….. thats called cheating Plus its actually quite dangerous…. Plus it won't really teach you very much. Not being negative…. just don't want you to think walking after your heli at any point is acceptable.

it was a bit of a heartstoper pete when I changed modes the heli dropped, I thought just my luck flick a switch and crash, but it picked up speed, I was grinning like a chesire cat when I finished pack,

Hello Honwal and good to hear your achieving the challenges you set because it's got to be good for confidents which ever way you look at it.
Just a bit of info for you to think about regarding the pitch jump when you change from normal mode to idle up. I tried a shed load of pitch curves in my first year and the one I found best for me is zero degs blade pitch at centre stick.
Normal mode 40, 45, 50, 75, 100
Idle up mode 0, 25, 50, 75, 100
These curves will allow the change from nor to I/Up to be much smoother with regards to sudden changes in height as the blade pitch doesn't change, just the head speed.
The one thing to watch in I Up is if you have a bit of a moment and drop the throttle if your mode 2 then the heli will drop very quickly towards the ground because you will have more negative pitch than in normal mode. On the plus side, as you progress further on if you want to fly inverted or do a bit of 3d then you won't have to learn to fly a different set of of curves all over again.

Cheers Dave, the settings I used were from John salts beginner book, mid stick were same settings, the drop was more than likely a drop in throttle from me, I will certainly make a note of settings you gave, if weather good weekend I will be trying standing circuit.
