  • First walking circuit,

After a week of hovering 450x,
weather was good wind wise tonight so I thought this week slow circuits, so tonight I started hover then switched mode which has more head speed then done my first walking circuits (CW), what a great feeling I had, then I tried (CCW) only manage half a circuit and had that old feeling call lean again then bailed out, and done another CW circuit, thought I would share my experience happiness is for sharing,

then to top it off I put switch in dx6i, and gears in a servo,

I don't understand the benefit of walking behind your heli. I don't see what you learn from that. Not knocking your achievement but wherever you got that from is just probably worth ignoring imo.

I'm with you Pete on this one. I'm all for trying new stuff and pushing yourself but this is habit you don't want to get into. Apart from the risk of tripping over something you are not building on your orientations skills. Also, if you join a club you'll be expected to stand in "the pilot's box" and not go wandering all over the strip.

I think that's a little harsh, but I know where you're coming from. Everybody learns at different speeds according to their own natural ability and/or time available to practice.

Honwai - Pete is making a valid point though. To really progress, you need to move away from tail in. Start maybe moving the heli tail to 45-degree angles from you - so still tail-in for the most part, but gently moving towards side-in. "swaying" figure-eights (again with tail-in) can be used as a stepping-stone to proper figure-8's and then on to nose in.

Have you seen the 10-day learning plan on rchelicopterfun.com ?

You are not allowed to walk behind your heli to keep to tail in lol….. thats called cheating Plus its actually quite dangerous…. Plus it won't really teach you very much. Not being negative…. just don't want you to think walking after your heli at any point is acceptable.

I don't think it's not acceptable. It's just not learning much so I don't think it's worth doing. Not trying to be harsh just think the OP may be taking bad advice.
