There are people who say crashing is a part of the hobby, well it may be for some, but I don't agree that it's the case for everyone. Ultimately, there are lots of skills which are learned without crashing or breaking things. Imagine we learned to drive or fly real stuff with that attitude. No one would be around to pass their tests! Now, technical problems happen of course, as these things don't typically have the redundancy of cars or real aircraft, and I agree that faster progress can be made if you are pushing the limits. But by the same token, progress can also be made by being more conservative in your learning, slow and steady but still learning. And to be honest, crashing that much would not instil much confidence in me, and the money drain would probably kill any interest I had left. But that's just me

I think you should probably revise that to say "its what happens when I'm learning to fly" lol Because i don't think many other people will be able to out do you on the crash front. 1 a week is insane…. even when learning at a total novice level. What are you learning at that rate other than which bits of a Goblin brake first?!

I think you just love to see the carnage really But as you say… you are enjoying it so who cares……. But you can't seriously suggest that much crashing is "what happens when ya learning to fly" ?!?

When learning, I crashed often, but it was an mcpx v2 so 9 times out of 10, it survived the crash. If not, it was peanuts to fix and I often had parts with me.

Conversely, I crashed my 2x 450's less than 4 times I think in my first 2 years. My 500 had one crash in its life. My 700 has had one crash and my 550 is crash-free.

So I guess the panic button was pretty useless then? Only reason I'm considering the 200 SRX is because of the safe modes. Are they actually a waste of time?
Just wondered what mode it was in when you lost it so badly hovering around the garden? Or did you just get bored hovering and started throwing it around a bit?

I never had a 200SRX - only an mcpx and a 120SR. Both of which pre-dated SAFE technology.

EDIT : I realise you're talking about the OP, not my post above! doh!

No worries Tom. Actually the 120 SR could make a great low cost garden trainer. I'm starting to wonder if it's a better option than the larger 200 SRX?

I started at the same time as a mate - I got a 120SR, he got an mSRX. The 120SR was bigger, but self-stabilising. The mSRX was smaller but neutrally stable like a CP heli. I quickly outgrew the 120SR and my friend progressed to CP quicker due to the similar handling characteristics of the mSRX.

Nowadays there is the 200SRX which due to the wonders of a FBL unit can be both the 120SR in terms of stability and the mSRX in expert mode.

If the 200SRX had been around when I started, I absolutely would have gone for that instead. The 120SR is a good heli, but I think it's almost too easy ..

Cheers Tom. The 200 SRX is still my planned outdoor trainer. Only thing that puts me off it is iffy reliability. Otherwise looks perfect for a solo trainer.

TBH, no helicopter is designed to crash! From what I've seen, the 200SRX has a couple of angles where it suffers in a crash compared to the 120sr or mSRX. The tail rotor appears to be a weak point - but that's pittance to replace and a 2-second job, and the rotary servos.

Thing is, yes, linear servos on the msrx, mcpx, 130x etc. are good in a crash - but they are a pain in other ways. Dirt gets in the contacts, they become unreliable just through normal usage and they do still break occasionally.

My take would be, take it easy, accept that crashes will happen though and budget for them. I'd still recommend the 200SRX over the 120SR.

Not least because as far as I'm aware, the 120SR was discontinued by blade and replaced by the 200SRX.

Judging by the pics you may want to get used to hitting 'throttle hold' before impact. Could've saved a couple of components there. Main shaft could be bent. And before you tw@t the neighbours little girl in the eye.

i had my 1st big crash with a 200 srx yesterday, i'm just glad the parts are cheep
i hit a tree, and still haven't found everything that's gone missing.
they are easy to fix up tho, one of my 1st crashes broke the frame so stripped it down and re built it all in about 2 hours
