Just a thought as a beginner, what sort of weather condition can you fly in how rough can it be for a heli wind wise.

Personally aslong as its not raining or -10*c im fairly happy
Wind wise upto about 30mph is do-able, but obviously the fun starts to wain the stronger the wind. General rule of thumb is under 15mph and its all gravy. Some say my left nipple is the shape of a Raptor canopy.......... And that for fun I chase sheep in wellies 3 sizes too big. All I know is I am 3D Clod

Part of heli flying is being able to appreciate the conditions and whether it's flyable. Wind is obviously not your friend when you're learning to fly, the heli is affected as soon as the skids leave the ground. The last thing you want to do is take a small heli (sub 450) into the garden with winds of 25mph and attempt to fly. It will pick the heli up and you'll never see it again. A 700 even in these winds you're only going to chuck about, precision flying has gone out of the window. Our site is naturally windy and most of the members will happily fly in 15mph+ as thats what we're used to, I've even seen the likes of Phil E flying a Trex 100 in these sorts of winds but he's very experienced.
For a beginner go for a light breeze

+1 on previous comments, as a beginner, especially with a smaller heli, you want calm conditions. Anything more than a gentle breeze is going to make life difficult.
Once you get experienced larger CP helis will actually cope with wing very well, even some pretty strong winds. I can fly my helis when I'd not think about flying my fixed wing models. But there does come a point (at about 20mph for me) that it's not fun any longer, so as it's a hobby and meant to be fun that's when I stop.Goblin Kraken, SoXos Strike 7, XLPower Specter, Goblin Black Thunder T, Goblin 700 Speed, Goblin 770 Comp Carbon, Trex 700X, Kasama Dune, Henseleit TDR

I am going for the blade 200srx the thing that has clinched it for me is the safe mode, I have watched YT vids and I think I can be patient enough to take it easy until I get the feel for the heli,Originally posted by tourerjim View PostWhich heli you going for...?

gusting 45 mph winds
and nobar is the way to fly
rain's a no no
and -10 is stay indoors time
for a beginner light winds is ok
but don't be affraid to fly in some wind
and with a small heli the wind will effect it more than a larger oneHirobo Turbulence D3

You can be macho and fly in silly conditions. I outgrew that (or age outgrew me).. give me a day with good viz, no need for gloves and preferably some sunny spells. Or.... buy a gasser, a wetsuit, a large can of wd40 for afterwards and I'd guess 30mph gusting to 50mph would be doable in squally rain. But some of us have other hobbies too - like a hot bath and and a hot toddy..PGK

Weather is always good in the lounge/bedroom, so I started off with micros this winterOriginally posted by honwal View PostJust a thought as a beginner, what sort of weather condition can you fly in how rough can it be for a heli wind wise.
Seriously though I'm holding off on a 200 SRX until spring when the weather gets better and more importantly I will have more time to fly outside. In the meantime I will be really interested to hear how you get on with your 200. On paper it seems like the ideal beginner outdoor heli but keep hearing about how fragile they can be.SAB Goblin 380 KSE - latest love thang
Lynx OXY 3 - my mini flagship!
Blade 180 CFX - field beater for new moves
Blade Red Bull BO-105 CB 130 X - scale fun flying at the field when the tail isn't broken, which is not often.
Blade mCPX - sold
Blade Nano QX - house fly of choice
Blade mCX2 - retired but will be back when the kids get a bit bigger
Spektrum DX8 - for everything
neXt sim - the sim I started out with
Heli-X sim - my new favourite sim!

Nice. ill be setting up a friends 200srx this weekend & going to try to setup so that its in safe mode fight then when you input cyclic it will switch into ie 3D mode so he can do loops/rolls & if he lets go of cyclic heli will return to safe mode or if the maneuver goes wrong just let go of cyclic stick for safe mode.Originally posted by honwal View PostI am going for the blade 200srx the thing that has clinched it for me is the safe mode, I have watched YT vids and I think I can be patient enough to take it easy until I get the feel for the heli,Today's outlook is fine for flying.- Spektrum DX18 gen2, Phoenix Sims, Align MR25XP.
