Absolute greenhorn looking for advice on transmitters/helicopters.

Not intending to buy chinese rubbish, as i was fooled by similar stuff - melting ESC in my drifter was the result.

On the other hand,the pricing is a joke (imho), so i'd rather go used.

Maybe contact Tamas by pm he is reliable and trust worthy.

For me the new DX6 at £110 or there about cant be beat and will stay with you for quite some time before it will need changing.

I'd not be so hasty to dismiss Chinese products. In the RC world virtually everything is Chinese made, or sometimes made in nearby 'far eastern' countries such as Taiwan. Spektrum for instance is all made in Malaysia and/or China.

Of course just like 'stuff' made anywhere else, there is good Chinese stuff and bad Chinese stuff.

I should've said "knock offs". Of course chinese electronics can be decent to well made, but knock offs from my experience (not just the ESC, goes for other things as well) are pretty dismissable. The Xbox360 controller knock off is another good example.

As you said, there's proper chinese companies, and then there are the "companies" that do knock offs. And these, to 95%, are simply rubbish. Bad quality in every regard, and nowhere near the "real deal". The most prominent example in this forum should be the DX6i knock off that was sold at some point, which i only read about.

edit: and the cracked dongle for £5 on ebay is 100% that. A cheap knockoff.

There. Got an ESky 300 for doodling and getting a feeling for 4channel helicopters, i got a DX7S (just got mail, it's only a week old <3), i got a Blade Nano CP X for after training a bit with Phoenix RC, and now i got a legit copy with dongle of Phoenix RC as well.

Did i miss anything or am i settled for the next couple of weeks?

Hehe, temptation is big, already checked out the used Blade450 you linked in the other thread - but i have to stay stronk. Spent way too much now anyway, like double what i actually intended to pay ^^.

First, i need to see how i get on with all the things, then the moneys. I don't even know where to go exactly, 3D seems interesting, but scale helicopters look so amazing and i do like building/fiddling. We'll see what the next weeks bring.

The jive 90 is the most realistic heli in my opinion. This is the cheapest and most realistic heli sim you can buy. It comes with a cd in the post, but mine is gathering dust, all updates are done online, and are frequent, making big differences such as new helis and realism changes. This sim is a fraction of the cost of the main players!

Agreed, funny how it can seem that learning 3d is any less than just a progression of learning to fly... Just go as far as you can on the sim... keep practising, don't relegate yourself to just flying around, if your in an imminent crash situation and have already learnt to fly some light 3d on the sim, your brain will instantly tell your thumbs what to do, automatically, in an instant, probably saving your heli!

The sim to me is basically just a cheap way to get a feel for controls. I'm not sure that i can develop muscle memory in a sim (also, not sure that it would be a good thing). Eventually i will get a cheap-ish "banger" in a decent size/power, and from there on, well. Depending on what the budget allows and what interests crystalize. Either proper 3D or the first small scale heli. Maybe a turbine heli, if i go all the way. But as i said, that's future - i can't afford to blow 500 bucks in two days to get started in a hobby. Not that rich, sadly. ^^

Will give it a shot, installed demo already in fact (even before you guys mentioned, was trying to use Xbox360 Pad which, well.. worked "sub-optimal") - but i just bought Phoenix RC, so i'll stick with that until i get fed up.

Sorry for another double post, i was just browsing the interwebs (it's like an effing fever wtf) - and i saw something. As i said, i intended to use an ESky 300 to get started with "proper" flying (more than 3 channels), cuz it was cheap and i wouldn't mind too much if it breaks. After basically going through all the helicopters in the world, i saw a Blade 200 SR X. The one with basically three flying modes (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) - and i started to wonder, if maybe that would be better for actually starting the hobby.

I don't know much about their "SAFE" Technology, but on paper, that seems very tempting. I'd like to hear a "professional" opinion before doing another snap decision though, so.. Any words of advice, or maybe an alternative (in the same price region, if possible)?

edit: coming to think of it.. As much as i actually like the 200 SR X, it's fixed pitch. I'm considering jumping fixed pitch alltogether (the NANO that comes with my Tx is CP too iirc), so the question would be, what is a decently sized (~35cm) CP beginner-friendly helicopter, preferably in costregions where it doesn't kill me if i kill it?

While I don't think there is really such a thing as a beginner friendly CP helicopter, it is certainly possible to skip fixed pitch if you have the patience. I started with a toy-ish 4ch fixed pitch (indoor only) that I outgrew in about 3 weeks. Also quickly got tired of a few small quads. I moved straight to a Blade 130X and never looked back. It did, however, take quite a beating and no longer flies. Micro helis are not maintenance-friendly IMO, but they do offer great, relatively cheap practice. If I were starting over today and wanted to skip fixed-pitch, I would probably go for the Blade 180CFX, which has replaced to 130X.
