Yes, it's definitely easier to walk around - seeing the heli turning is still speeding up the heartbeat!
Well, I'm sticking with practice on the sim and msrx for now. I need to be hovering better on the CP's before trying nose in. I was fairly confident on the 130x and mcpx but the maiden flight of the 450 has dampened that a bit!
Really need someone to have quick go and make sure its all setup ok - I'll tinker on the smaller heli's but I just don't want to smash it just yet - I don't think you get any second chances on the 450's!

Tourerjim - is that the default starting position (with heli to the left)? I wondered why the sim always starts like that!
I had been moving it directly in front of me!
Just goes to show doesn't matter how much reading/googling you do you can still get things confused. Would love to try and get some help but I don't think there any heli clubs that close to me.
I had put a message in the new members intro page (asking about local club info) but haven't had any replies yet.
Still, I'm prepared to go this alone if necessary. I have the bug now and nothings going to stop me....

... apart from lack of funds, sleep deprivation (2 young kids), etc etc...

I bought a blade nano cpx thinking yeah I can hover do nose in and fly figure 8s with my trex and blade but I cannot fly the nano too twitchy for me so going to sell it on ebay.
So more stable are the larger helis

Nose-in on the sim is much more difficult than doing it for real, virtually every time i fly i take off & land nose-in, nose-in takes more control than any other maneuver imo & its your eye sight that determines how good your going to be that's why im saying about setting the heli down in front of you nose-in even when your sitting at the table munching, your eyes have got to adapt to seeing every angle of the canopy.
The thing with nose in as soon as its going nose-in towards you, your going to panic 'NO' have your bail out ready then come straight back in for another go making your brain think for your left hand because that's the hand that's going to dump your heli if you panic.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Been practicing take offs and landings nose-in (just on the msrx) and slowly getting the hang of it. Once I feel I can throw the mcpx around a little more (tail-in) then I will give it a go on that. Hoping the new lipo for the 400 3D arrives today so I can give that a better go at hovering. Will try it in the garage first off (it's wet and windy here today).
Just wondering I anyone has flown the Blade 400 3D before - is it ok or should I just ditch it and wait to get something better (a proper 450 or even FBL)?

Yes i still have the B400 if setup correctly done it can fly nice but the tail gyro is a bit poo be worth getting descent gyro.

Tourerjim - yes - I have had a good play tonight and I think the Gyro may well be completely shot. I can't get it to hold at all. It changes direction depending on head speed and once off the ground spontaneously swings 90deg without warning. I know my only other experience with is with the smaller FBL heli's but this doesn't seem correct! played with the gain settings (and I can see how that affects the tail) but nothing I do seems to stop the inconsistencies. I can't quite believe I even attempted hovering it outside having now seen how bad it is!
Can you recommend something cheap/simple for the 400 (and a noivce)?

Sorry, one other question for you B400 owners - it there just one model? A blade 400 3D or is there a 400 (not 3D) as well? At first I thought there was two - now I seems I may have been wrong.

Just one Blade 400 fit a Futaba 401 or spartan quark gyro and a reasonable tail servo and it will transform the heli.(the 90 degree kick is more often than not a loose tail belt) tighten it as taught as you can get it using thumb pressure against the main body whilst gripping the boom.add an extra boom servo clamp as a "stop" against the body, and you will find that for learning the std servo and gyro ain't that bad.

                        Thanks Boggy.
The belt seems ok (feels the correct tension and definately doesn't appear to be slipping) not 100% sure I'd know if it was though?
Seems like if I can sort the Gyro issue out it will be a good starting point.

Could the weak tail be related to a low headspeed, as in another recent thread on here?

Ok - so had a quick play and really ramping up the pitch curve (0,70,80,80) and this make it a little less twitchy BUT is still seems a bit out of control. I am going to try a different Gyro - at least then I'll have something to compare to.
                            So, two new Lipo's and a Gyro (£40) so that's already nearly twice what I paid for the heli. I can see where this is going :~}

To be honest mate it probably just needs set up I still have to original gyro on my blade 400 and it's very stable and under control

Thanks vcx10 - I guess it would be good to have someone who knows what they are doing have a look.
Everything looks ok (belt tension, gyro gain) apart from the tail the heli seems to respond well. When it is off the ground (other than the tail) it seems to respond well. Not sure what else needs to be setup correctly (obviously I'm fairly new to all this) but what else could affect the tail?
The only other thing is the new lipo's are probably a tad heavier than what would have been origenally on the heli (1800 v's 2200 40c's) I did notice the nose is very slightly heavier - can I just counterbalance this (and what should I use and put it where?) I'm tempted with bluetack but I'm guessing that's not a good idea?!
