  • 3GX V5 help needed

I have set up my 450 with 3gx v5 and have run into a problem. In HH mode when I give a little left stick say about a quarter
stick the rudder immediately jumps back to centre as if on elastic. Giving right rudder is no problem. Everything is centered in rate mode
and slider silky smooth with no binding. I have been over the setup a number of times to no avail so any ideas of where I have gone wrong
would be most gratefully recieved. Thanks in advance

If you have 3gx inverted mounted have you REV A/Torque setting this can only be done on the last 3gx in tail setup with all led's flashing & inverted mount needs red led, norm mount green if you have this correct next if you plug in to pc software & in rudder parameter set anti torque compensation to 40% you may need to go + - by small amounts.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

        Hey.

Usually if the anti torque is set the wrong way it makes for an interesting flight as the tail compensates for collective pitch inputs with more left rudder, so the nose swings more with the torque reaction of the main rotor.
Definitely worth a check, as easily over looked.

What settings are you running in the software? I'm thinking specifically the rudder locking gain, as this can give similar traits where the tail is reluctant to move and then when it does swings back as it's too well held.

Thanks coolice I wil put it back on the computer tomorrow if I get time. Do you know what the general ball park settings are, or should be for rudder locking gain?
I have been through the setup more than a few times but can not get it right. Thanks

            Evening Mate.

You're welcome. It will be good to see what settings you're currently running.
From experience I found 45 ~ 50% rudder locking gain was best in the past, the out of the box 70% setting was always too high. I've not had a proper play with V5 so can't be 100% certain, but it's always been the case, so it's worth trying it reduced.

Cheers coolice for tghe info. It was set on 75% so a little on the high side. I must say I donot
remember doing this setting in the past. I will try at 60% to see how things go. At the moment
the weather and gardening chores ( cutting down trees) prevents any flying so will have a go next week. Thanks again for your time.

my tail had bounce back before i reduced the locking gain a bit too.

                  Morning Mate.

                  You're welcome buddy.

75% may be V5's stock setting, but definitely in the past it's been too high. This locking gain effect how tight the hold is on the tail when not commanded to move by the pilot, if it's too high when we do ask for it to move, it's reluctant to and can then exhibit what you're seeing as the gyro didn't want to move so far.

Yeah weathers not great again, I've chosen to stay around the house and get some more work done instead.

Locking gain seems according to my initial impressions to want to be set higher in v5.0 software. On my 500 using previous software I had to reduce it to 40% to stop tail wagging, but with v5 software the tail seems to drift a bit so i'm trying higher settings. On the bigger helis (600 and 700 I've already gone up to 70% on the locking and they are fine at that, but the bigger ones always tolerated a higher setting than the 500. It seems to need to be lower the smaller the heli is, so as per previous advise I'd try reducing it. Also set your rudder delay to zero and make sure the heli size is set to 'small'.

Unfortunately i wont be testing the 500 today because I've tweaked my back which in turn has given me sciatica meaning I can hardly walk or stand. It's driving me nuts because I feel fine sitting but would struggle to walk from the car to the flying site with the sciatica as it is.

Thanks Grumpy. Strangely I'm also suffering from a bad back. Been trying to dig out a tree stump and pulled to hard with a pick. I can
hardly move today so will have to give all this a go next week when the pain subsides. It's good to have all the info. Hope you back improves soon.

                        Hi guys

cant work out why. When I move rudder to the right the tail kicks back a bit/ bounce when I centre stick, its ok when I move to the left. Gyro gain is a 90%

ive had bounce back on my 450 and 250. it has gone in the 450 now, no idea why.

the 250 is a bit harder to tune though, try cranking the rudder delay up
