Yeah 8 or 9 with gusts of 19 should be flyable with a 450 you just may find yourself having to get back on course a lot. When it's a steady wind you can just compensate it's the sudden gusts that can catch you out sometimes. I find that the most difficult part in strong gusty winds is landing, when the heli is bouncing up and down and you're trying to time your landing so that it doesn't slam into the ground.

I'm not sure yet if I'm flying tomorrow or not as it's showing fairly tame wind but the temperature looks like it drops right on down and I don't fancy frozen thumbs.

I guess it's all relative - I've flown my 250 in the aftermath of a big Atlantic system and had a ball hugging the lee of a hedge and then honking up into the westerly blast for huge loops etc. It takes it's toll on the packs but it's great fun and good training.

Lately I've been having great fun with the 'BIG BIRD' - all 8Kg of the Vario trainer running on 14 cells. The weight along with the unbogable power make for a great combo in "lively" weather.

Either way make allowances. Shorter flight times and a bit more height!

      Have fun, Marty

8-15mph should be fine on a 450 sized heli-but skill level comes into play. If you are unsure, either fly a little higher than usual or stick to the sim until weather or skills improve.

Well the OP is pretty new to flying as he says he's only hovered the 450 a few times. 9mph with 18-19mph gusts would certainly be challenging I think. In the hover the 450 will buffit a little, and in fast forward flight it's going to bounce up and down somewhat. Extra concentration and slow controlled landings will be required. He will most certainly have his brain utilized 100% by the time he lands after his last pack! That's just my thoughts!

Also hoping to get some flying in tomorrow after a few weeks of really poor weather. Planning to get the 550 up for a flight or two, and the 450 for some mild sport flying. Forecasted winds are expected to be around 5 to 9mph with gusts to around 15mph from 9am through to lunchtime. Hoping for a little calmer actually as the calmer periods here lately have been better than forecast.

Good advice. I've found that on gusty days it's been good to get the birds up and get a feel for the choppiness - but usually keep the flights shorter due to the increased intensity! At the end of the day we have to get used to the turbulent air we typically have in this part of the world!

A 450 can get out of site quickly in the wind when your not used to it so be careful. It will take a lot to get it back up wind again as well with so little power.

Flying in strong winds is great and actually great fun. But when you're learning it can be a real drag waiting for those less windy days!!!

It's been very calm here this morning and sunny skies, so managed to get the 450 and 550 out for a few flights :-)

I have flown the 550 in a solid 25mph wind before now but it was a handfull. It got very small very quickly on the downwind leg! I fly slope soarers a lot so I am fairly comfortable flying in high winds.

I was flying on saturday, in 18+, with 25mph gusts and it was fine on the 600, a bit of a challenge keeping it at a constant height as it was very gusty. It picked up quite a bit after that so packed up as I didn't want to maiden an £1100 model in those conditions. Sunday was even worse so didn't even leave the house!

Was flying in the 50 mph wind the other day a challenge…. but no that big of a challenge. Adapt and continue i say Taking off was the hardest bit, the heli was being blown over on the floor lol. Plus the blades were spooling up by themselves in the wind with no power. That made me laugh
