  • mCPx v2 questions

    Hi Guys,
I have a few questions if I may.

Want to get into CP and have finally decided to go for the mCPx v2, it was always between that and the Nano.
I have done lots of research on both, obviously some say the Nano and some say the mCPX as a first CP, the conflicting views are endless, I have to choose one and came to my decision as the mCPx is larger and so more suited to BOTH inside and outside use, both can take a fair knock with out to much damage and should be ready to fly straight out of the box?
I have also decided on getting a DX6i as it looks like a great buy and can 'tone down' the settings on both these Heli's to suit a beginner like me.
I know I will buy the Nano at a later date as I still love the idea of owning one.
My only concern is this; Will i have to modify the V2 when I buy it? I ask this because I once read the V1 needed a few little mods to get it 'just so'. Having said that, 'if' the V2 needs modifying when you buy it from new I wouldn't bother and just go straight for a Nano. Is the V2 a lot better than the V1?
    Any info much appreciated.

Go for the v2 flys great as it is stock out the box , an the right choice over the nano , like u say it's bigger an abit more stable for a learner for all your orientation.

I was in the same boat as yourself about 6 months ago. I bought the MCPX V2 and a DX6i. I do not regret it one bit. Mine flew straight out of the box (as you rightly said, with some toning down), but apart from getting the blades to zero pitch correctly, which will be the case with both MCPX or Nano, i think they are bang on. That said, they fly well without the blade adjustment, but they are lovely once correctly levelled at zero pitch. I even bought another MCPX to tinker with and mod.
Good luck and enjoy mate. :-)

        Cheers Lads,
I'm now well chuffed with both your replies, just what I was hoping for, it appears all my research has paid off!
        V2 it is!

        Many Thanks

The nano definitely needs modding. The motors wear out quicker than anything! Saying that I did a double brushless mod on mine and it has to be one of my favourite helis to fly now can fly it all day long in doors and with the BL upgrades flies ok outside too. I think that eventually you will want to upgrade the mcpX too. Have you considered the mcpX BL? It does need upgrades such as a better swash also a better frame eventually but the power is immense so you can pull to of trouble well without all the bogging that you will get on the mcpX. They all fly great out of the box but after a few flights and the crashes start to need some tlc and replacement parts.

The Mcpx V2 is fine straight from the box. Great little heli.

Buy a spare boom and motor and some 2mm carbon fibre rod to make up a spare boom unit for when you crash. That way you will always have one on the heli and a repaired one ready to fit.

Crashed mine yesterday on some goalposts ( If I had tried to hit them I would still be at it now!). Broke a boom and the swash links popped off. 5mins later back in the air.

Skids break easily. See other posts about these but i will swap from KBDD ones as they are not strong enough. Get a couple of spares in.

            Enjoy.
            Happy Landings.

The worse thing for me about the mcpX v2 is the front canopy pins snapping off the frame on a crash. Got through 2 frames that way so then did a mod to strengthen them. Haven't broken them since even on hard crashes. But it is a heavy mod! Added a cf beam across the front pins and secured it with epoxy and heat shrink their may be a light mod

Oh, also, would any of you suggest I use the Phoenix Sim or could I get straight into flying the Heli? Will be using the Dx6i with toned down settings, would that set up be ok for the house? I will be taking it very easy...lol.

When I started on the mcpx an had never really flown I hovered on the sim tail an side on for aslong as possible, I cudnt keep it in the room untill I'd had a few hours practice , 2 weeks later it was inverted in the living room, the more time on the sim the better it will help u so yes get on Phoenix!

Phoenix will improve your flight ability. I always noticed I could fly better after a session on the flight sim. Also will save you loads of £ in crashes

Phoenix will help, no doubt. But it's far from required. Just take it easy - probably start outside with lots of space. Is this your first heli - or are you flying fixed pitch helis at the moment?

Mine has only just started to play up, It's probrably had 200 flights by now and more than that crashes It needs a new motor and it's good to go again, other than that all I have ever done is extended the boom.

Best thing I bought tbh, It got me onto my forward flight in no time.
