I cant fly yet but i have found that my main gear slips down the shaft so i push it back up with an empty biro pen holding the top of the head.
When it is slipped, the main shaft moves up and down which makes it hard to control.

I got a new mcpX v2 for Xmas from Santa what can I say but Fantastic! I really do t know why people find it lacks power as it's way less boggy than my brand new nano cpx. I still feel it warrants/ demands a much larger flying space. I fly the nano comfortably in my living room but I soon run out of space with the mcpX doing similar circuits! It's a much faster bird and I'm sure the head speed is way higher too compared to the nano! Still love my cpX as always though

One thing that annoyed me on my new mcpX though was that the right cyclic servo was dirty or something as first test flight the servo jittered up and down making it impossible to fly the heli. Had to wait til I had time later that day to take it apart and clean it with switch cleaner. Once back together it worked great but annoying as it was fiddly and for some one new to the hobby I think it would be really disappointing and daunting! Luckily I've faced it before so knew exactly what to do!

Great moves! Loved your piro flips and rainbows! I unboxed my new mcpX v2 yesterday feeling the power compared to the old mcpX and over my nano! Just wish I had some of your moves to compliment how well it's been handling basic circuits, piros and hovering just feel like it's not being used to its full... One day

i bought a second hand MXCP v2 and i think it needs some setting up.

When i throttle up it seems to lean left and fails to get off the ground.

I have tried holding it, and throttling up and it just wants to lean over.

I have all the trims centred...

The kit came with the gauge to zero the pitch.

Im unsure if its the TX setup, or the heli.

Any suggestions. There was no paper manual with it, only a CD with two lists for the DX6i that came with it.

Im sure its something im doing wrong.

Do you leave it to initiate after you plug the battery in?

Plug in the battery and immediately put the heli onto a level surface. You will see it centre all servos after a few seconds and the blue light will show steady.

All helis take off at a lean. If I remember correctly they go left lean because of the tail rotor pressure.

If you try to overcome the lean by adding cyclic at the point of take off it will usually go even further over. You need to take off before using cyclic. This does require a bit of practise.

If it has no lift then either you do not have enough pitch or your battery is knacked. With the pitch full up you should see quite a bit of positive pitch on the blades. If not, this needs resetting in the Tx.

Zero the pitch at mid-stick. Positive above that and negative below that point

If it's the battery not delivering enough power then a new battery should sort that.
              Happy Landings.

Spot on! You need to leave the heli stable on a flat surface after you plug the battery in. The gyros should take a few seconds to initialise before the blue light shows.

All helis take off at a lean. If I remember correctly they go left lean because of the tail rotor pressure.
Almost right! All RC helis DRIFT (not lean) left on take off because the tail rotor blows it left. To take off straight upwards, you need to lean the heli very slightly RIGHT to counteract the left drift. This is normal and is called Translating Tendency.

To the OP - holding the heli will give you false impressions of what is going on. The heli has a 3-axis gyro that is constantly trying to correct very minor fluctuations in the helis position in space. The gyros expect the heli to be free-floating in space - not being held down by a hand! Hence, they over-compensate against lack of movement VERY QUICKLY!

Bottom line is, if the swash is level, it will take off correctly. Enable throttle hold so the motor doesn't spin up, then move the left stick from fully down to fully up and watch the pitch of the blades.

Do they go from pointing downwards, to pointing upwards? If so, you're in business! If not, lack of positive pitch is your problem.

A common thing to happen for the mcpx (v2 and BL) is for the main gear to slip down on the main shaft. Check that there is no vertical play on the main shaft.

Thanks guys. To be honest I was swapping batteries about alot to find a good one. So its possible it could have been off level when It powered on. Got them on charge now.

It did take off but just fell onto its side when it was about 10 to 20cm off the floor. I was not trying to hover at that height it just wouldnt get higher before falling on its side.

I did have the main cog slip down the shaft and spotted that. Are there any fixes for that ?

I will digest what you have said and have another go at some point but need more space to learn. I dont have the biggest front room.

Whats the best tx setting for a cp noobie ?
Tried to follow the checklist on the cd but its all a bit alien right now to decide on the best settings.

Gonna swat up tonight and will update you when I can fly again. Also got phoenix rc on order before I break this. Just need to leave the heli alone until I understand what im doing.

Im loving soaking up all this new info. The xbox isnt get much attention lately.

                  Thanks and speak soon.

When you say it fell on its side? Did you try to correct it, or are you expecting the heli to rest in a stable hover with no input?

The main cog slipping down is a common problem after a crash. I just use a pen-top to push it back up without taking the skids off.

Take a good look at the following site : RC Helicopters, The Most Fun And Rewarding Of All RC Hobbies.

I tried to correct, but ìt all happened too quickly.

im being very cautious not to climb too quickly due to limited space.

I will post a clip if im still having problems, but I suspect its my FP touch of an elephant not being gentle enough.

I dont expect the easy hover of an FP though.

Cheers guys and watch this space.

When's it has taken off, even an inch, you have full control.

Tipping over 200mm above is either you doing inputs or a set-up problem with the swash level.

If the swash is level when you have initiated it ( and that is very important) then usually you are good to go.

You sounds as if you will get it sorted. Keep the info flowing and we'll do our best to assist.

Well, I got it up in the air momentarily and managed around 2-3 seconds of hover, but OMG. Its soo quick. My brain cannot correct before its heading towards the wall. I have decided I need more space to learn. I should do as I said and wait for simulator. Its gonna be feb before the usb adaptor arrives tho. Will repair my fp and leave this alone til then.

I was not giving it enough throttle (sorry if thats the wrong phrase) thats why it was leaning and crashing. Im just nervous about breaking it.

                                Are you using Dual Rates?

I find they are essential with an Mcpx as they are very nippy.

Set Dual rates on aileron and elevator to about 70% and use them in tight spaces.

Also, about 30% expo helps tame the thing. Really, unless you are very good an Mcpx will run away with you. Dual rates and expo = the answer IMHO.

Edit - they work for me lol
