Very new to heli's. Turned Tx on first, plugged in the battery and watched those nice little LEDs on my Honey Bee CP2... Red light.
Ah, throttle full on. So I pull it back to idle, 2 seconds as the clever electronics do their stuff, and Holy S***, all hell breaks loose!!
Manage to get out of the way as my (now terrifyingly large!!) model carrers across the living room and puts a hole big enough to put your finger in in the wall!!
Now the not-so-proud owner of a very bent CP2
I was only going to check the balance of the blades!! First crash and I wasn't even flying the b****** thing!
I have read a few posts with regards to plugging batterys in and the blades going to full tilt and scaring the wits out of the owner.. I am sure it has put some real fear into newbies who are not aware of the inherant dangers.
It got me thinking.. You tend to use both hands when plugging a battery in.. so if it does go off on one, then your at the mercy of the blades and no hands available to hit the Tx if the throttle is up too high.
Is is possible to put some sort of switch between the heli connection and the battery? At least this way you can safely plug the battery in, get yourself sorted and then when fully prepared switch on. If it does go ape, then you at least have a fighting chance of dropping the throttle on the tx.
I am sure this has been thought of before, and there are many reasons why it is not adopted... It would be interesting to hear either way.
I have a Blade 400 which i have yet to fly... so keen to find out as much as i can before getting it in the air.

Thankfully the DX6i that the B400 comes with is a lovely tranny, it won't let you do silly things like that. I know, I tried it with my blades removed to check the safety features. Heli just sits there like a lemon doing nothing. And that was 2 seperate helis...
I think it was a mixture of complete bodge jobs by me that resulted in this accident, I know pip demo'd the throttle safety cut out, however what ever I done caused the chopper to power up.
At least Nick said he'd sort it all out for me on Thursday which I'm very grateful for.
I got to see my first Blade 400 and DX6i last Saturday, and TBH I think I'll be sticking with Trex's from now on, for the money you can't beat what your offered, but it isn't a patch on my 450, and the DX6i seems very plastically and flimsy compared to the DX6 which even though has been out longer than the Dx6i is still more expensive and I guess more rugged.
I liked the Blade 400, and wouldn't have been disappointed had I brought one, and the chap who came in was having trouble with the tail servo, but after flying with pip and the guys with Align heli's I think the Trex bug has rubbed off on me big time, and what the guy's have said here about them "I thought at first was personal bias", but as proven yet again and many times before they know what there talking about.
Pip's new 450 SE v2 was a work of art, in fact almost to beautiful to fly, and should be displayed as a superb piece of modeling engineering, LOL, but seeing her fly everything was so precise and tightly controlled, I have to say when I brought my CX2 I thought that would be it, but watching Rob's 600 and a few 450's in action stirred a passion for this game like I never imagined.
And as for phoenix I couldn't be more hooked then if I was taking Crack Cocaine.

I'm hoping to buy a B400 before too much longer. Though I really don't know why, I'm trying to justify it, most of my flying is indoors, which I obviously can't even consider with a 400 class. But, and here's the but, outdoors will be awkward too, as I don't have a car...
Main thing is your having fun with your collection of heli's right now, I'd love to buy the skylift sometime soon.
Trex Mad are selling a 450 with a DX6i for just a few quid more than the 400 system, and I'm sure there'd do a deal minus the TX, if your within walking distance of a grassy area then your have it made, so don't dismiss it mate.
Thankfully phoenix is ultra realistic, but I know what your saying, when the urge is there it's sometimes hard to push it aside.

Clearest bit I have is in the garages 50 yards away, I rent one and they have a padlocked gate on them, so did think about flying it in there with training gear on, at least till I get up to speed with controlling it. Then would take it up higher with a cam on. Other than that there is a couple of parks nearby, but don't want to risk what happened to poor ApachepilotUK. Certainly not with 300 quidsworth of kit.
I have to say the Skylift isn't the beginner's heli they like to pretend it is. Although it's coax you have 2 of everything, plus extra control rods to the servos which really makes it a pain to trim up.
I can imagine mate, I understand your caution in todays age none of us are really safe anywhere, and what happened to APUK was a disgrace in the extreme.
I think when starting out grass is possibly more preferable, rotas hit hard whatever happens, but dirt and a bit of the green offers a little padding.
One great thing about the Blade 400 box is it's precut foam inner is the same as the CX2 box, making it fantastic for transporting safely.
I'm a bit spoilt for practice grounds, 20 yards from my house is that large grassy island (estate not main road) surrounded by properties and it's always quite, that's where Rob Greves (warboys Astro) flew his Trex 600, plus if I walk another 20 yards I have the biggest grass field to hand, which my newly moved parents back yard very handily backs onto, (thinking of the cups of tea between charges).
For me I'll practice in the field until I feel more comfortable knowing people will be watching at the other flying area, as no one looks cooler than a bloke flying a RC Heli, however you feel the biggest twat when you ditch one accidentally due to nerves.
