  • Blade CX2 - Newbie saying hello....

    Hi All

I have just ordered a Blade CX2 following much searching and taking of advice from this excellent forum.

I've always fancied an RC helicopter, but was put off many years ago by the then high cost. I've never really been interested in rc cars, planes or boats, trust me to want to do the most expensive (potentially depending on crashes!!), rc hobby. My interest was renewed when one of my workmates came in with a little 2-channel heli his son bought him for Christmas, next thing I'm in ASDA buying a Picoo Z for £17.00 absolutely great fun and the best stress reliever going, well the only one you can have in the office and not get sacked that is!! I've had great fun with this hardy little copter, its been crashed, dropped, straightened, crashed, dropped and straightened again, but still flys OK, just not always where you want it to go.

So I was well and truly hooked and started looking around for the next best step; I must admit I was within an inch of buying an Esky Honey Bee from BuzzFlyer, but after reading many threads finally one from Made2Fade I decided against the Honey Bee and also decided against going the possibly cheaper Ebay route and have just placed an order with Midland Helicopters, they stock all the spares, it's the latest version with ali head and separate receiver. I've also ordered an additional battery, spare blades, heat sink and most importantly training gear.

Well I've said hello, I'll let you know how I get on, I may well invest in Phoenix later, but from what I have read and providing I practice basic manoeuvres and don't try and run before I can walk I should be OK with the CX2, at the end of the day it ain't the flying that damages your heli, it's the crashing!!

    Cheers, Steve

    Hi Steve,

Welcome to the forum. The Blade CX2 is a good choice; order yourself some spare blades and a extra battery. I've been flying mine for a couple of months now and once you get past the frustration stage its great fun.

      Welcome Steve.

Some training gear will save many blade strikes when you start, you don't need them for stability as the CX2 will hold herself just fine, when your more comfortable after a few weeks of doing small hops to begin with.

Remember from a freshly charged batt she'll go up like a rocket so bear that in mind, and don't go outside unless you can light a candle and the flame doesn't blow out, I had a terrifying experience once after upgrading all the parts, a new body and took her out in a slight breeze.

Through luck and a little knowledge back then I Managed to get her down facing the wind gently, but it was thirty seconds of terror while it lasted.

Best of luck, and you will bust blades, possibly bend a few shafts, but this is all part of learning, so don't let the odd crash put you off.

Small jumps when you start and on from there and your be fine.

      Good luck mate.

        Hi Steve

Sounds like we both had the same idea, I have literally just received my CX2 today after looking on this forum for advice and I am a total newbie as well.

Best of luck with it and hopefully only a few crashes!

sorry,,, i fell asleep earlier in the chat room!!

in my opion you will get on ok with the king 2 if you've had intensive practise on phoenix and with teh cx2 ofcourse

however you would be much better off (if your budget can stretch) with a t-rex 450

                Hi All

Thanks for the replies, great service from Midland Helicopters, ordered Wednesday at 14.00hrs arrived next day at 12.00 noon.

I'm really impressed with the Blade CX2, it's a great looking little machine, well finished and I can't wait to strap on the training kit and have a go. Unfortunately due to crazy work hours I won't be able to go through the checks advised in the manual until Saturday, I've charged the battery plus the spare I bought and will take the manual and instruction cd to work so I'll have something to do all day.

I'm pleased I visited this forum and followed the excellent advice within, thanks again, I'll keep you informed of my progress, (or otherwise).

                Cheers, Steve

To both of you, enjoy, the BCX2 is a real little beauty of a machine. And once you've trimmed it out right a real dream to fly. I tried the (unfortunately flat) FlyCamOne on her last night for a weight test and barely knew it was there.

BTW, when you get used to her try to get some over the Flightpower replacement Lipo batteries. They were recommended to me on this forum and well worth the investment, as they are cheaper thatn the normal ones and have a better power to weight ratio.

                  Edit: Over? I meant of....
