  • newbie with hubsan x4 problem

    Hi all
Firstly I should say I'm completely green when it comes to flying ex models but yesterday I went out and bought a hubsan x4 after contemplating getting involved in it for a while. It took me a while to be able to control the thing at all but after about 2 charges and a few minor crashes I started being able to hover it about for around 30 secs at a time (its much harder than I thought it would be).

Now I got a bit of a pro lem with it. It doesn't seem to want to take off! Whilst low I can control it. I noticed one of the blades is slightly bent which you can only see when its spinning and I'mholding it, its only slight so not sure I'd that's the problem. Also if I tilt the model to the left the 2 right blades stop and if I tilt it right the left ones stops, same with front and back. Is this normal.

The x4 only cost £30 so hence a cheap way to get involved, but if I have to keep buying parts its not so cheap anymore.

Anyway that's it hope someone with more experience can help me with my introduction to model flying.

    Thanks
    Markyboy

Hi Marky welcome to the forum. The props stopping is normal (its how it works! ) sounds more like you may not be getting the battery charged fully.

You should have spare blades in the box , just make sure you get the right one , like for like . You can warm it between your fingers and straighten it out a bit :-) .

Also check the boom hasn't come unclipped a bit , leg or whatever you wanna call it . There's plenty of voids on you tube that help with theses little buggers . Aren't the great

      Oh and welcome

Fair warning - this isn't a cheap hobby! Crashes happen I'm afraid - at all levels, as what goes up must come down as they say - not always under full control!

The only guaranteed way to crash without costs is to get yourself a simulator - like Phoenix v4. A combo with a 5-channel TX is more than £30, but you can crash to your heart's content!

Hi all and thanks for the help, I thought it may be a battery too and I was going to buy feanyway so I could fly for longer. O I only bought it yesterday so is there any way to ensure longevity of it. I should also clarify that I don't mind spending the money if its something I'm going to take seriously but I'm only dipping my toes in at the moment sodon't want to spend loads ofo money until I at least get a little better at flying it

Don't think the x4 is a bad choice, the controls are at least the same as a proper collective pitch Heli if you continue. And I will say they fly fantastic! When you get the knack and set the rates to expert mode they really fly.
Lots of really useful info over on rc groups about these if I remember correctly they need to be re calibrated regularly.

When you hold it blow on the blades they should spin freely that means you ain't stuffed a motor bearing inwards, if you charge it use a USB socket not your laptop as the mine didn't put as good of a charge into the battery as it does through the socket. And one little trick to keep the circuit gyro level.."calibrated". Befor flight left stick to the bottom right and then wiggle right stick left and right and your lights should flash but remember trims center and on level ground before you do to get the most out of it
ps make sure your blades are on the right motors as per manual if you ever change them
                  Regards

No I got the v1 its great fun and I'm getting better at flying it. Could do with getting outside with more space than my garden will give me so I can try and let it go a bit more looking forward to that

No idea about trims although I got a vague idea. What's the real difference between expert.and normal mode is it just speed and sensitivity? When do you know when your ready for it

Blades are spinning fine but I have been calibrating constantly its the only thing that's a bit annoying only takes a couple secs though

It will just be far more sensitive to stick inputs, mainly on the cyclic (right stick) it will pitch much more aggressively forward backward and side to side. Also allows it to do flips and rolls (full 360).

You can give it a go anytime but would suggest you feel comfortable in normal mode first.

Ok cool thanks. Anyone bought parts off eBay from abroad before (mainly China) are they rubbish as they are cheap or just as good and a bargain?

I bought 5 lipos for mine from china eBay. They fitted fine and gave a good 10 mins flight time. Think they were about £15 delivered.
Can't say how well they lasted as I got rid not long after (got bored).
